LOIS SMASH!!!
I felt some definite inspiration from a filmmaker like Tarantino, because the plot started in the middle, with Clark waking up with a kryptonite tipped needle to his side and finding out Oliver lost “her.” Who’s “her,” you ask? Well, Lois, of course! This love triangle between Clark, Lois, and Oliver is a bit on the odd side, because Oliver is clearly a cad, despite loving Lois. But where’s Dinah? Black Canary has been on the show before, why can’t he be shooting his…ahem…arrow at that bird? Oh right, drama. The essence of the early Clark/Lois
relationship had always been her infatuation with someone who she felt was superior to sheltered innocent Clark. And since Superman is merely “The Blur” at this point, they need someone to replace him.I suppose that wouldn’t be so bad if “The Blur” weren’t still in the ugly all black get-up. I don’t like my Superman dressed up like my Batman, thanks. I thought Clark reaching back out to his humanity meant the end of this stupid Goth-Blur, but I guess I spoke too soon, oh well. I will admit it was nice hearing Oliver call Clark various names meaning “God” or “messiah” because that’s exactly what Clark can seem like to lesser folk.
Something that was…awkward to accept was the resolution to this virus. While most vaccines take years or even decades to develop, it was ready to distribute within mere hours, with enough to dump over the entire city. After one sample of Clark’s blood (remember the needle? Yeah…). I’m sorry, but that was enough for me to suspend
my suspension of disbelief. My favorite part of the episode, and so desperately underused was Callum Blue portraying Zod with delicious accuracy. Everything from the way he speaks to the sneer he has on his face just bleeds Zod. Every time he says “KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!” I truly feel the authority in his voice. I really hope he gets more screen time in the coming episodes because he is just a treat to watch. Anyone who is a fan of Zod (like me) would enjoy the level of commitment he has to such a great villain. I love it.
Final Verdict: Worth it just for Callum as Zod.
