Well folks, DC has finally announced the executives of the newly formed DC Entertainment division. The sole role of the division is to help integrate the DC Comics brand into Warner Bros. properties in various media outlets such as feature films, television, direct to dvd movies, etc. The new executives are as follows
Jim Lee and Dan Didio as Co-publishers of DC comics
Geoff Johns as Chief Creative Officer
John Rood as EVP, Sales, Marketing and Business Development
Patrick Caldon Named EVP, Finance and Administration

Geoff Johns and Jim Lee?? Really??? I mean, great for them, but I'm pretty surprised.
I think Rob Liefeld, of all people, actually made a comment about Lee being a Co-publisher a while back, but no one picked up on it. Now what does Johns role entitle him to?
A good deal within alternate media such as videogames, toys, TV, movies, etc.

Very interesting. I'm glad they took most of the executives in a creative level. At the very least it's a reassuring misdirect to readers, at the best a sign of a whole new world for DC. Nice moves.
I think this is a smart move for DC. For too long WB treated them as just a simple merchadising wing of the company. Disney getting into Marvel forced WB into realizing they have one hell of a legacy in their back yard.
I'm not the biggest fan of Didio in terms of his editorial division, but I thinking having Jim Lee in there to temper and work together is a good thing. As for Johns on the creative side, fantastic! Just hope it doens't mess with his writing, his strongest suit (Although, who knows, there might be a killer EIC just sitting inside).
I think the more interesting fallout from all this is yet to come. With Diane being the one that brokered the deal to bring Harry Potter into the US via Scholastic (and their ties to WB), Disney having their own book distribution company, and the folks at Archie slapping a $500 million civil suit against Diamond; gonna' be a damn interesting summer / fall for us comic fans and retailers.
At least this story buryed Marvel's "Astonishing" news. Which, imo, is a terrible idea and feels like total pandering.
Agreed Aaron. I think it's a huge move for them, and the fallout will be very intriguing indeed.
However, I disagree on the "Astonishing" news. While it's hard to compare the two bits of news, from a creative standpoint I do think the idea of an almost "All Star" division of Marvel comics that feature top creators like Ellis, Aaron, Kubert and Andrews can only be a good thing. I spoke with Aaron on Tuesday, and I can tell you that this is not some sort of half baked idea that is just pandering to the audience - the Spidey/Wolverine title at the very least will be a brilliant story. I can't wait for it.
I think these are great moves that should really payoff for DC. Lee and Johns getting some respect is legit.
Also, I think the Wolvie/Spidey Astonishing could be fun but the X-Men Emo trip you can count me out of.
Astonishing line is a great idea for Marvel as it's losely in continuity and is a great way for new readers to familiarize with the comics.
And Burpee, I doubt that will be the costume design, just a random cover/promotional issue.
