The Great Amazon Extravaganza: Aftermath
- Posted by Walter Richardson on Tuesday, March 09, 2010

For those who missed out on Matt's news article a couple of days ago, this weekend Amazon.com marked down many omnibuses and other large collections from every publisher (except DC, since they use a separate distributor) down to as low as ~$8.50. After much confusion as to why this was (confusion added to by certain sites reporting mere rumors as "facts"), we finally have the final word on the massive mark-downs:
- It was a glitch, not a sale.
- Even though it was a glitch, Amazon honored all purchases so long as one did not order multiples of one product (in which case the quantity was reduced to one, rather than canceled).
- Unfortunately, if one did not order early or choose next day shipping, many of the higher profile omnibuses sold out and caused the order to be canceled.
Rumors are still flying across the internet about the "real" reason, but this is what Amazon has said on the matter through phonecalls and email (including one informing me I wouldn't get the four I ordered). For those lucky people who got their extremely cheap omnibuses, enjoy them, and don't be a jerk by just turning them for a profit.

A lot of people are also getting their orders removed and refunded without ANY notification whatsoever.
That said, mine is still holding strong...however, since it isnt scheduled to ship until the 19th I'm still not betting on success.
scratch that, mine's gone.
Some people are saying that a lot of emails came about half an hour after the actual order was canceled. I wouldn't know, because mine was canceled while I was asleep.
Canceled. Bastards.
I got my email...
Hello,
Our records indicate you recently ordered 'The Ultimates Omnibus
Daredevil by Brian Michael Bendis & Alex Maleev Omnibus, Vol. 2'. Unfortunately, due to a pricing error, we sold many more than expected. In fact, we completely sold out — we don't have any in stock right now, and we're not even sure if we'll be able to get more.
As a result, we've had to cancel your order. I realize this is disappointing news, and I'm so sorry for any inconvenience this causes.
You may want to check our website from time to time to see if this item is available. If anyone is selling it, you'll see a "More Buying Choices" box on the product detail page; if it's not available from any sellers, you might see an "Order it used" or "Alert me" link. "Order it used" allows you to place a pre-order for the item in case another seller lists the item for sale later. "Alert me" allows you to sign up so we can e-mail you when Amazon has stock available for purchase.
I'm sorry I don't have better news. We hope to see you again soon.
NOOOOOOO!! :-(
Yeah, they are "sold out," but you can go buy one at full price right now...
Isn't it funny that the full price ones are sold out? I hate it when that happens.
