The Return of the 'Verse

The tale will be written by Joss and Zack Whedon and illustrated by Chris Samnee (currently of Siege: Embedded), and it will be titled Firefly: A Shepherd's Tale. It will take us into Book's past and finally fill us in on one of the greatest mysteries of the series: was Book an operative? What was his relationship with the Alliance? This book should answer all of that and more.
On top of that, Dark Horse revealed in their Twitter feed that none other than Patton Oswalt (Firefly superfan) will be writing a one-shot for the series.
That's a lot of great news for a well loved and long dead series. I really can't wait to read it. My money is all over Book being an operative in his past.

Yeah, this has been announced a million times. Until I see a release date and a cover - hell, until I see it in a store and can hold it in my hand, I ain't getting excited anymore.
This was the first time they officially had a writing/artist team. Scott Allie announced at the Diamond Retailers Summit last year that they wouldn't announce the title until they officially had a writing/arting team. This was the first time they had that together. So this is different than whatever announcement you've heard.
This comic has been in the works with that title since '07: http://www.serenitystuff.com/2007/12/12/ron-glass-announces-a-shepherds-tale-comic/
Notice how the article says it'll be released "next year"? Yeah. It's supposed to have been out for two years now. That's cool about the writer/artist team, but I still refuse to get excited until I'm holding it in my hands.
