Multiversity 101: The Triumphant Return of $2.99 (or is it?)

- Posted by Joshua Mocle on Saturday, October 30, 2010

Welcome, you voracious viewers you, to the triumphant return of Multiversity 101! He has decent taste in comics though, what with his recommendations of Morning Glories, Haunt, Battle Pope, Kick-Ass 2 and...is that the Five Fists of Science in his hand. In Night part two, predestined events come to pass as chaos reigns in the world of Nick Fury and his Secret Warriors! Join us as all the pieces begin to fall into place and we get one month closer to the concluding story arc of Secret Warriors, the book that has IGN.com saying: "As crazy as the war between Leviathan, HYDRA and Fury has become, it's as enjoyable and engrossing as ever - a consistently great series."

In our third battle review of the week, Matt and David go head to head to discuss Eagle Award winning writer Jonathan Hickman's Secret Warriors #21. One writer loves it, and one writer not so much. In what is certainly the single most vicious battle two of our writers have ever had on this site, Matt and David fully pull out the claws with this one.

Chris Samnee's Howling Avengers (Updated!)

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Friday, October 29, 2010

As posted on the Comic Twart blog, take a look at the wonderfully rendered "cover image" of a book Chris Samnee would draw (and we'd read!) if he could.

As Samnee writes, "Nothing high concept here. Just wanted to put my favorite versions of some of my favorite Marvel characters into the Avengers, and have them lead by Nick Fury, who would make a kick-ass leader of any group! And yes, Beast is now a member of S.H.I.E.L.D - he's a joiner!"

So Marvel. What's the hold up? My bank account is ready for a new ongoing.

Update! Now with colors from Nathan Fairbain!

Brian Wood And David Lapham Trap Jason Aaron In The DMZ

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Friday, October 29, 2010

Those of you who follow the site on a regular basis know that DMZ is a book we (I) regularly call "the best Vertigo comic out there." On the other hand, we (David) also call a book called Scalped "the best Vertigo comic out there."

So what would happen if the two books combined?

What would happen is David Lapham's artistic display of Jason Aaron as seen above, as an antagonist to "hero" Matty Roth. Move over, Parco Delgado - there's a better player in town!

Ultimate Comics Spider-Man has been in some minds a disappointment in comparison to the original volume of Ultimate Spider-Man. To them, I say "calm down, people!" as I've been enjoying it greatly throughout. Review: Thunderbolts #149

- Posted by Joshua Mocle on Friday, October 29, 2010

Thunderbolts #149
Words by Jeff Parker
Arting by Declan Shalvey

Well isn’t THIS the little book that could. Easily one of the most underdog revamps of the year, Thunderbolts has been (pleasantly, from what I hear) surprising people left and right since the most recent status quo change post-Siege. From my perspective, what makes this book work is that Parker has taken elements from every era of the ‘Bolts (the awful AWFUL fightbolts excluded of course) into account while building this status quo. You have the original idea of villains looking for redemption through heroic deeds of the original Busiek run (and Nicieza’s New Thunderbolts), the government sponsored angle of the Ellis run, the not looking for redemption at ALL angle of the Diggle run on the book and even a remnant of his brief pre-Heroic Age run on the book with the inclusion of the former USAgent as the warden of the Raft. By acknowledging what came before, Parker adds a whole level of credibility to his run…and that’s not even taking into account the “wouldn’t have seen it coming but still works great” line-up he’s assembled. So how does this issue stack up? Clickity click below!

Review: Fantastic Four #584

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Friday, October 29, 2010

Writer: Jonathan Hickman
Artist: Stephen Epting

It's the return of Galactus, a trip to Nu-World, the Old Kings of Atlantis and Namor, the all-new Yancy Street Gang, and the day the Thing becomes human again. Join Jonathan Hickman and superstar artist Steve Epting in THREE, part 2: 'Congratulations, Mr. Grimm...You're Human Again.'

I am nothing if not a huge fan of Fantastic Four and Jonathan Hickman these days, which is something I probably couldn't say a year or two ago. I've always slightly enjoyed the Fantastic Four (who doesn't love Kirby and Lee's work?), but after the Dark Reign mini Hickman wrote is when I really became committed to the series and what he had to bring to the table. "Three" is the culmination of a lot of ideas and stories that have been woven in very loosely and in a somewhat unnatural way for the standard superhero romp, and it's something I've followed closely and been taking notes with.

However, this is the first time in every review of his I've ever done that I haven't gone into the writing process with an instant rave rant in mind. Why? Check behind the cut to see.

Preview: Superboy #1

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Friday, October 29, 2010

It is very rare that we post previews on Multiversity these days, but occasionally there are books and authors we are so excited about that we (or I) just have to. In this instance, it's Superboy #1.

I've noted in the past being a big Superboy fan (I think he's the best character in the Super-family), and Adventure Comics was a HUGE book in terms of excitement for me, what with Johns and Manapul working on the book. That book has changed into a Legion book since then, but now we have MC Favorite Jeff Lemire taking on the duties of Superboy (which we just chatted with him about). This is exciting for a number of reasons aside from what I've mentioned for me personally, and DC released a preview this morning of the first issue (out next week). Right out the bat I notice a light reference to Essex County, as well as an appearance by a character Lemire has been known to mention he loves, so seeing him finally get to play with that character is pretty cool.

So take a look after the jump for the first few pages of the book as well as a Cassaday variant cover!

Marvel Teases Onslaught Unleashed

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Friday, October 29, 2010

This morning on Marvel's blog, they released the cover to Onslaught Unleashed #1. It's a rather large cover featuring several teams that are recognizable, including most of the Secret Avengers, Hank Pym from Avengers Academy, and the Young Allies. It looks like although their book was canceled, McKeever still has some plans left for them - which of course begs the question that if he's still going to be writing them into an "event" like this, what happened to their main title?

Either way, the solicit for the book gives us very little additional information, other than Filipe Andrade will be the artist, Rob Liefeld will do variants, and the cover price will be $3.99 (which does fit into Marvel's price point plan, but doesn't make the book more attractive).

Now - WHY is Marvel bringing back Onslaught? I have no clue. I suppose we'll have to wait and see. I loved McKeever's work in Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane though (not so much in Young Allies), so I'm sure you'll be able to expect a review of this come February 2011.

Double Rainbow Friday Recommendation

- Posted by Gilbert Short on Friday, October 29, 2010

This is an actual Ice Cream Shop in the Bay Area. Be jealous

Today, in honor of Superman: Earth One being released, I thought I would recommend some other origins of the Man of Steel, one set in continuity, and another set out of continuity. Those books are Birthright, and the other is Secret Identity, respectively.

Insert Double Rainbow jokes here. And ignore the fact everything I seem to recommend lately is Superman.

Review: Scalped #42

- Posted by David Harper on Friday, October 29, 2010

Written by: Jason Aaron
Illustrated by: R.M. Guera

In the gut-wrenching conclusion to "The Unwanted," Carol decides the fate of her unborn child while Dash struggles with the idea of fatherhood.
In perhaps the most tragic and haunting arc yet of the book that regularly earns my highest grade, Jason Aaron and R.M. Guera have upped the ante of the world of Scalped. This issue gives us the finale of the aforementioned arc, and I went in wondering: could it live up to the high standards of the preceding issues?

Review: Action Comics #894

- Posted by Joshua Mocle on Friday, October 29, 2010

Action Comics #894
Words by Paul Cornell
Arting by Pete Woods
Jimmy Olsen Back-Up Words by Nick Spencer
Jimmy Olsen Back-Up Arting by RB Silva

Good lord man, I can’t describe just how good this series has been since the arrival of Paul Cornell and the spotlight shift from Superman to Lex Luthor. Truth to tell, I’ve historically existed in stark opposition to the Super side of the DC Universe, for varying reasons usually including the words “boring”, “stereotypical” and “trite.” However, the recent overhaul of the Super line post-New Krypton has produced hit after hit not only with this book, but also Superman by J. Michael Straczynski and the upcoming guaranteed to be amazing Superboy by Jeff Lemire. Making the original Super-Hero and by extension his universe seem fresh and relevant is no easy task, and this book more than any other is leading the charge. The breath of fresh air that Cornell and artist Pete Woods have inserted into this book has been nothing short of (capital B) Brilliant and this issue continues the trend of high intrigue meets modern pop-culture snark meets high comic fantasy and comes very close to achieving the very first perfect score I’ve given to a book.

Review: Secret Avengers #6

- Posted by Joshua Mocle on Thursday, October 28, 2010

Secret Avengers #6
Words by Ed Brubaker
Arting by Mike Deodato Jr.

I’m going to be brutally honest right now, but this was the last issue of Secret Avengers I was planning to buy…the operative word of course being WAS. Now I’m not so sure. Let me explain myself for a second here though…like many of the writers on this site my pull list is quite large. So when the time came to triage it a little bit, the first thing that got looked at were the FOUR Avengers ongoing series on said pull. I knew I had to cut at least one and the only one I could, at the time, bare to cut was Secret Avengers. Despite the fact that I loved the concept (covert ops super heroes), the characters on the team (especially Ant-Man, Nova and Beast), the writer AND the artist, the first arc bored me to TEARS. I couldn’t follow the action, nor was I particularly invested in the storyline…it just seemed a little TOO high action, like the book was taking its role as the “secret dire threat” book a little TOO seriously, and it just fell flat in my opinion. By arc’s end, I just did not care…so too by the end of last month’s origin of Max Fury. Too self indulgent…too, well, mainstream comic-booky.

Who Owns The Banks In Marvel's Universe?

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Thursday, October 28, 2010

You may have noticed that Marvel has a new show out, entitled Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. The show has just started, and we've been discussing it. I won't lie to you when I say I find the show highly enjoyable, and I'm honest when I say I'm just glad there is a cartoon that isn't really bogged down by extremely childish elements.

So with last night's episode, I was left wondering - what's up with those dollar bills? Is it just me, or does that symbol not look like a $? I'm confused. The symbol seems familiar... I just can't quite figure out why.

If anyone out there on the internet has any ideas as to why it seems so familiar, let us know. We're pretty confused.

Silver Samurai and the Hand are in Wolverine 2

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Thursday, October 28, 2010

Or at least, I think it's safe to assume so based on leak information.

As reported at Bleeding Cool, a series of casting calls have been released for the new Wolverine film as revealed at Pajiba. Two particular casting calls are particularly noteworthy:

Shingen: Shingen’s father was the master of The Hand, an order of ninja. Instead of allowing his son to take leadership of the order, Shingen’s father killed himself and left the Hand without a master. This pretty much defines Shingen now. That’s how it works in these kinds of stories.

Kenuichio: Shingen’s illegitimate son, but not recognised as an heir. An expert Samurai, he will adopt his “Silver Samurai” guise in the movie and attack Logan “several times”.

So. Does this sound familiar? Do you think you can infer what's going on here? Does the cover of the trade that I put in this article look slightly resonant in your memory spaces? Yes? Ok.

Well, then that's that then! Darren Aranofsky, let's see what you can do!

Captain America Has Rather Large Guns

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Thursday, October 28, 2010

Ahem.

Over at iFanboy, Paul has uploaded scans of his Entertainment Weekly, featuring a shirtless Chris Evans among other things. My copy of Entertainment Weekly has yet to arrive, or else I would totally scan up Chris Evans' pecks for you.

The pictures do give a very interesting look at the film though. We get to see Red Skull pre-skulling, small shots of Erskine, and Cap's shield and costume. Now, I know what you're thinking. "Matt, we SAW the costume! It's on the cover!" Or did you? Marvel and director Joe Johnston have stated that we would be seeing Cap's costume evolve throughout the film, and that it would evolve into the modern costume out of a USO show appearance. Well, within the pages of Entertainment Weekly, you'll see exactly what Steve Rogers is going to look like in the beginning, and I gotta say - I approve 100% the direction they're taking this in. Seriously. I was excited already from the cover, but these scans make me even happier.

Now we just need a trailer!

Take a look behind the cut for all the pictures, and thanks again to iFanboy for scanning the images.

Superman: Earth One Sells Out on Amazon

- Posted by Walter Richardson on Thursday, October 28, 2010

Despite all the negative comments regarding the new, supposedly "Twilight-esque" Superman, JMS' Superman: Earth One has already sold out on Amazon.com. I suppose there truly is no such thing as bad press. Not only that, but Jim Lee has confirmed via Twitter that the book is already moving on to its second printing. Many skeptics of the new Earth One line thought that it wouldn't have enough sales to become "big," but I guess this lays that belief to rest. Here's to seeing if Batman: Earth One is as successful.

What Is Sterling Gates Teasing Us?

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Thursday, October 28, 2010

By now you've all read Walt's review of Supergirl Annual #2, so let's take a second here to talk about something I noticed while reading.

The above panel is a brief interaction between Supergirl is obviously "not meant to hear" while she's hanging out with the Legion. Despite not wanting her to know about her own future, Brainy mentions three events: the Scion of Superwoman, the Deadly Day of the Dollmaker, and Lex Luthor's other son. Me being the astute reader that I am now have to wonder - what does Gates have planned?

A quick thought process on the event names:

  • A scion is a descendant, and Superwoman was the first "big bad" Gates created for Supergirl (for those that didn't read the arc, Superwoman was Lois' sister Lucy, who was working for General Lane), so quite literally the event is "the descendant of Superwoman." Last we saw Lucy, she was in custody at STAR Labs, but at the beginning of Bizarro Girl's arc it was hinted she was getting out.
  • The Deadly Day Of The Dollmaker is the silliest title I've ever heard, but perfectly cheesy. It's also been solicited, kinda sorta (and look at what name is mentioned in the solicit). That deadly part doesn't sound good for Cat Grant, though.
  • Lex Luthor's OTHER son is the interesting one to me, especially with Conner about to get his own book. Is this something that will tie into Superboy at all, or does Gates have something evil planned for the poor family? And does it have something to maybe do with Cornell's Lois-bot? Because if so... huh.

For those who don't know, Gates was one of the co-architects throughout all of New Krypton as paired up with Geoff Johns, and he co-wrote the Fall of New Krypton and the War of the Supermen. While Gates is leaving the Supergirl book, he is fully responsible for making it the FANTASTIC title that it is today. So with his leave imminent, what do these three "set events" mean? And when will they happen?

Review: Supergirl Annual #2

- Posted by Walter Richardson on Thursday, October 28, 2010

Written by STERLING GATES ; Art by MATT CAMP and MARCO RUDY ; Cover by AMY REEDER and RICHARD FRIEND

In a special story that has direct ties to the regular monthly SUPERGIRL series, the Girl of Steel visits The Legion of Super-Heroes on Halloween in the 30th century! But Halloween proves to be just as spooky a holiday a thousand years from now as it is today, because a horrible new threat has awoken thanks to Supergirl's arrival. And that horrible new threat's name is – Satan Girl! Brainiac 5 has a plan, but it may come at the cost of shattering his potential romance with Supergirl!

DC has been giving The Legion of Superheroes a larger share of the spotlight ever since the original team was reintroduced in The Lightning Saga, especially after Geoff Johns' Legion of Three Worlds. I enjoyed how Sterling Gates handled the Legion while working on Last Stand of New Krypton, so follow the cut to see if he delivered just as well with this issue.

Whenever I log onto Twitter, I often think of the film Mad Max 3: Beyond Thunderdome. There's that scene in the film where Tina Turner forces Mel Gibson (pre-blatant anti-seimtism, so it's ok for me to watch) into a steel cage where TWO MEN ENTER - ONE MAN LEAVE! That, in a nutshell, is what Twitter is.

Or rather, what it was yesterday, when Red 5 and Brian Clevinger (writer of Atomic Robo) decided to share with you that Atomic Robo will be available for digital download. It seems that some other shops, with one in specific, took offense to it. Which shop is that? Larry's Comics in Lowell, MA. For those of you that don't know about Larry's yet, it could possibly be because of all the LCBS Spotlight's I've done in Massachusetts, I haven't bothered to share any info. Why? Because the folks over at Larry's are rather notorious in being vocal about anything that disagrees with them, and I am in no mood to fight.

It's a good thing that Brian Clevinger is. Clevinger originally made a name for himself with online comics, which then transfered into print, and he's a big supporter of trying to find the happy medium between print and digital if only to make comic fans happy. Which is... you know... completely understandable. As Clevinger said during the Twitwar, "All I hear from are people who say “I discovered your comic on iTunes. Then I went to my shop and ordered them all.” Or I hear from people who go digital because they don’t have a local shop." In fact, I could even point out here that staff writer Joshua Mocle first read Atomic Robo on the iPad (despite me hounding him for months to do so), and now he's out hunting for the trades on weekly LCBS trips.

Of course, Larry has his side as well, along the lines of "I have but one humble request: BALANCE your social media energies. Don’t forget who brought you to the dance. you NEVER seem as orgasmic when the new “real” Robo comic hits the shelves as when it hits the new digital I-douche." Which I suppose is fair, but last I heard Brian Clevinger doesn't like to dance (although that's an uncofirmed water cooler rumor at this point).

Never the less, if you want to read the entire transcript of the rather hilarious/interesting back and forth between Clevinger and Larry, go to a Bleeding Cool dot com and prepare for both chuckles and face palms. It was definitely one of the more interesting articles I read today. Although it reminds me of one last thing - if you're going to berate someone over the internet, you could at least use proper capitalization and grammar. 140 characters and all that aside, you don't get non-local people to come to your store by not forgetting punctuation.

Review: Superman: Earth One

- Posted by Walter Richardson on Thursday, October 28, 2010

Written by J. MICHAEL STRACZYNSKI
Art by SHANE DAVIS & SANDRA HOPE
Cover by SHANE DAVIS

Forget everything you know about The Man of Steel and brace yourself for a staggering new take on the world's most popular Super Hero.

Best-selling, Hugo Award-winning writer J. Michael Straczynski (BRAVE AND THE BOLD, Thor, Babylon 5) and red-hot rising star artist Shane Davis (GREEN LANTERN, SUPERMAN/BATMAN) team up for this exciting launch of the EARTH ONE graphic novel series. Set in an all-new continuity re-imagining DC's top heroes, EARTH ONE is a new wave of original, stand-alone graphic novels produced by the top writers and artists in the industry. The groundbreaking new line rockets into effect right here with the Super Hero who started it all - Superman!

What would happen if the origin of The Man of Tomorrow were introduced today for the very first time? Return to Smallville and experience the journey of Earth's favorite adopted son as he grows from boy to Superman like you've never seen before!

Even before Superman: Earth One was released it was slammed across the internet for being "Twilight-y" by people who believe in judging a book by its cover in the most literal sense (and even then, it didn't make much sense). I could write a whole article on that alone, but I'm sure you just want to see what I thought of the highly-anticipated book itself. Follow the cut to find out!

Hide Yo Kids, Hide Yo Wife, and Hide Yo Brains - It's MORE Marvel Zombies

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Thursday, October 28, 2010

It's almost Halloween, and who doesn't love some zombies, right? Heck, last night I watched Night of the Living Dead before going to bed! I guess it's then appropriate that Marvel has announced today that coming in March, the Marvel Zombies are coming back - SUPREME Style!

Written by Frank Marraffino (Haunted Tank) and arted by Fernando Blanco, Marvel Zombies Supreme is set to infect the Squadron Supreme. As the solicit reads,

Responding to a mysterious emergency call, Jill Harper and her super-crisis special-ops unit descend deep into the bowels of a top secret underground research facility. They discover that the demented experiments of an unhinged geneticist have placed them at ground zero of a brand new virulent zombie strain – one that has infected powerful superheroes. The Squadron Supreme, once heroic defenders of justice and utopian ideals, have been reduced to corpulent cannibalistic murderers with a voracious appetite for human flesh. Harper and her team fight against overwhelming odds to stop this ravenous zombie menace where it began – before it spreads out to devour the earth.

I rather liked the last volume of Marvel Zombies. It featured Howard the Duck and Machine Man running around different unniverses and killing things, and it was arguably one of the funniest things that Fred Van Lente has written outside of Herc. I would like to see more of that, but I could also find fun in seeing the Squadron Supreme tear each other apart.

Either way, look for this in March from your ghoulish friends over at Marvel.

Holy 1940's - It's Captain America!

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Thursday, October 28, 2010

Well, this is a certainly great way to start my internet browsing morning - Chris Evans on the cover of Entertainment Weekly as Captain America!

I ... honestly, I usually have a lot of commentary to make here, but this is what it is. Obviously as every movie related costume alteration goes, fans give it a love it or hate it treatment, but I love this. I'm a big Cap fan, and I'm a reasonably big Chris Evans fan too, but I obviously had my doubts and reservations. This? I'm not gonna lie - this kills them. I'm all for Chris as Cap, at least as far as looks go, and Cap has just shot it's way up to the top of my most anticipated Marvel film now (sorry, Thor).

What do you guys think? Do you love the changes or hate them? Is Chris and his nice and neat hair doing it for you? Is this Captain America?

Chew #1 - Only $13,000!

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Wednesday, October 27, 2010

As astonishing as that might seem, it's the truth - a CGC-graded 10.0 copy of the first issue is up for sale on eBay, with it's "buy it now" option at $12,999, which - according to series artist Rob Guillory - is quite a steal.

The book is quite the underdog champion, coming out with us having relatively heard nothing for it and it's major press coming from printing in the back of an issue of the Walking Dead. However, the first arc sold like hotcakes, and the book has since seen it come into multiple printings right out the gate. Seeing the book at a $13,000 price point must have Layman and Guillory quite excited to say the least, and I can only imagine that this plus the Eisner and Harvey awards plus the TV show deal will get Layman and Guillory on a path that will put their kids through college to say the least. Or maybe I'm just over exaggerating that list bit - but it's seriously a fantastic comic book.

The book itself is almost at issue #15, marking the first quarter of the story complete and the first oversized issue that comes with an extra large and snazzy cover. The first issue's starting bid is at $3,500, and it's being claimed as the only one of it's kind. So - how much money do you have?

UPDATE: In response to this very post, Chew artist Rob Guillory has promised Multiversity that he will eat his hat if the book sells. So now this pretty much HAS to be bought so we can film that and put it online as an MC exclusive!

Review: Vision Machine #1

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Wednesday, October 27, 2010

A few weekends ago at New York Comic Con, Greg Pak hosted a panel entitled Vision Machine about a new creator owned comic he would be writing and releasing with RB Silva on art. Anyone who attended that particular panel would get a USB floppy drive which had a free comic on it, which in turn gave itself to a brand new and quite legitimate debate about creators and the distribution of their work in a free arena.

Of course, not everyone was able to get a flash drive - such as yours truly. I suppose it's good then that Greg Pak and the good folks at Comixology have put the comic up for free, allowing anyone with an iPhone or an iPad to get their own 100% legitimate free copy with no illegal filesharing required!

So with that in mind, allow me a minute of your time to share my thoughts on Greg Pak's Vision Machine.

Too Many Comics! - Superman

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Wednesday, October 27, 2010

This week sees the release of a brand new Superman book that has been in the works for a long time - Superman: Earth One. Although early reviews are causing some confusion amongst the fans, we here at Multiversity are all fairly excited for the first book in DC's new "serialized hardcover" books.

So it got me thinking - how many books does Superman currently have right now? The answer might somewhat surprise you given what was going on with New Krypton not even a year ago.

Take a look behind the cut for Superman's list of books, and be sure to keep your eyes open for a review of Earth One from MC this week.

Nolan's Next Film: The Dark Knight Rises

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Wednesday, October 27, 2010

It looks like the first bit of truly tangible information about the new Batman film has arrived: it's title.

Over at Hero Complex, Nolan sat down to dish a bit on the film, specifically revealing the title and that the villain will not be the Riddler. That's two villains now out of the running (with the other being Mr. Freeze), which still leaves Nolan quite a bit of room for casting options (which we assisted in last month). Nolan noted, "We’ll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we’ll be introducing some new ones." So that really tells us ... nothing.

So what do we know in total now? We know it's name (which is a bit... eh), we know Tom Hardy is in it, we know it's filming in New Orleans, and we know who won't be in the film. Nolan is notorious for being secretive about his projects, which is of course quite fair. Why ruin it for the rest of us when most of his films deal with involved mysteries? So now that we know the title, here's hoping some more news will pop up soon.

It's another week of Comics Should Be Cheap, as MC's writing staff picks what books they would snag if they only had $20 on hand to get comics.

Check out what we pick after the jump.

The Incredible Hercules to end after Chaos War

- Posted by Joshua Mocle on Wednesday, October 27, 2010

Sad but slightly unsurprising news announced by Fred Van Lente this morning via Twitter:

I believe I can speak for all of us here at Multiversity when I say "siiigggghhhhh."

Join us in January as we pour one out for this amazing, amazing book.

"Chuck Versus the Aisle of Terror" Review

- Posted by David Harper on Tuesday, October 26, 2010

This week on Chuck we get the moment we've been waiting for all season: Chuck meeting back up with his mother (Linda Hamilton) for the first time since he was 9 in "Chuck Versus the Aisle of Terror." Coming on the heels of a return to form after a couple poor episodes, I was a bit wary as to whether or not this would continue that hot streak or fall back to the mediocrity that had assailed the show recently.

Find out which it was after the jump.

Matt Kindt, Nate Powell, and Emi Lenox to collaborate for Sweet Tooth #19!

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Tuesday, October 26, 2010

Today on Twitter, Jeff Lemire posed a simple equation: "@mattkindt + natepowell + @emibot = SWEET TOOTH 19 ?", which to indie/web comic book nerds like myself and fellow MCers meant "GOLDMINE!"

Confirmation was needed, of course. So I reached out via Twitter to Emi, to which she responded she would indeed be working on Sweet Tooth, which is arguably the coolest news I've heard so far this week.

As far as I can tell, issue 19 will be solicited in two months time for March, so keep your eyes open! Also, take a look at Emi's Sweet Tooth art with this post, and go to Jeff Lemire's blog to see what Matt Kindt did back April! It's certainly going to be a very interesting collaborative piece for one of the best Vertigo comics out there at the moment.

Off The Cape: Chi's Sweet Home

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Tuesday, October 26, 2010

While this website revels in all things comic book related, there is one thing we never cover: manga. The closest we have ever gotten to discussing is Scott Pilgrim, and that hardly counts. However, there is one thing that we (I) are rather notorious in glorifying on the site in addition to comic books: cats! We just can't get enough of them and their adorable little faces and mannerisms.

Of course, if there were a situation where the two elements of comic books and cats being combined, and another website tips us (me) off to it, you'll be sure that we (I) will then go out and find this comic immediately.

And find it we (I) did. Check behind the cut for my thoughts on one of the most adorable things I've ever read.
