All-Star Superman Gets Its DVD Cover

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Tuesday, November 30, 2010

DC's next animated project, an adaptation of Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's wonderful ALL-STAR SUPERMAN, now has it's official DVD/Blu-ray cover, as revealed today in the press release for the DVD. If this cover looks familiar to you, that's because it absolutely should. It's a very nice cover, although not neccesarily one of the moments I would have picked to recreate for the cover (the Absolute edition picked a great scene).

The press release is also interesting. It is revealed that the movie comes with a sneak peek of the next DC animated film, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights. On top of that, there are several interviews with Grant Morrison, which to me points in the right direction. I haven't been a huge fan of DC's Animated film adaptations as of late, but the film version of New Frontier was outstanding and I've got my fingers crossed for a repeat of that. Morrison himself said that the film is fairly faithful and is very entertaining, and while I can't imagine that the movie will capture the same heart that the comic did (at least due to time limiations), I can only hope Morrison is correct. If nothing else, the DVD seems that it'll be worth it for the extras alone.

You can find the official press release after the jump.

"Chuck Versus the Leftovers" Review

- Posted by David Harper on Tuesday, November 30, 2010

On the heels of "Chuck" getting picked up for another 11 episodes in season four (total of 24!) and industry pundits theorizing that the show may even get a fifth season given its consistent (albeit low) ratings, things are looking up for fans. With "Chuck Versus the Leftovers," we're given our last episode until after the holiday season. How does it match up against the rest of the mostly great fourth season?

Find out after the jump.

Mark Millar And Dave Gibbons To Collaborate On A Comic

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Tuesday, November 30, 2010

Mark Millar created quite a bit of buzz when he said that he'd be announcing something yesterday, and little old me assumed that giving London it's first ever massive comic book convention was that announcement. Apparently not! The news is actually that Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons (whose name you might know because of a mildly popular indie book called "The Watch Men" or something like that) are working together on a comic, and I can only assume that this will be the last of the mentioned Millarworld titles.

However, according to everyone's favorite Bleeding Cool, this isn't really "news." In fact, this news is what started Bleeding Cool a little over a year ago. So while it is arguably big news, it isn't necessarily news news now aside from the fact that Millar has now announced that they are working on it.

Given Millar's output lately, though, I can only guess what this comic'll be about. Nemesis + Superior + Kick-Ass = Adjectiveman? One thing's for certain: it's going to get a movie deal before you even blink. There - you blinked, and now this has a movie deal.

Watch This: Wonder Woman XXX ALSO Gets A Hilarious Trailer (SFW)

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Tuesday, November 30, 2010

Yesterday we gave you the Superman XXX trailer from Axel Braun. Today, we give you the Wonder Woman XXX trailer not from Axel Braun. Apparently we just love sharing porn with you.

Either way, this trailer is arguably MORE hilarious than the Superman one due to a) a clearly smaller budget and b) clearly "better" acting. Then again, for a character whose own company doesn't know what to do with her, I'm not really surprised a porn company doesn't have much better of a clue.

Regardless - lulz will ensue.

Mark Millar Launches British Comic-Con: KAPOW!

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Monday, November 29, 2010

Kapow! Comic Con Trailer from kapowcomiccon on Vimeo.

It was rumored that Millar had a big announcement for Monday, and it was also rumored that it would be a new creator owned book (as he is supposedly working on three new Millarworld titles not including Kick-Ass and we've only seen two). However, it turns out it's something bigger: Kapow!, the UK's first official big scaled Comic Convention.

This is actually pretty amazing. Fans over on the other side of the pond have certainly had their fair share of comic conventions, but when Mark Millar puts his name on something he usually goes all out with it. Having just launched CLiNT, a brand new comic magazine, Millar is now looking to bring the SDCC to the UK audience.

As of now, some of the creators attending will be (deep breaths here) Dave Gibbons, Frank Quitely, Leinil Francis Yu, Andy Diggle, Jock, Steve Dillon, Duncan Fregredo, Kevin O'Niel, Adi Granov, Pat Mills, Paul Cornell, David Hine, Brendan McCarthy, Simon Furman, John Romita, Jr., David Lloyd, Olivier Coipel, Kieron Gillen, Bryan Hitch, John McCrea and more. Marvel and DC will also be in attendance, which is a huge step in the right direction to getting a con off the ground. While smaller cons certainly thrive, it's the ones where the big two show up that really help to pull in fans (as I've noticed).

For more information, check the official website where you can already purchase tickets. Take that, SDCC!

Watch This: Superman XXX Gets A Hilarious Trailer (SFW)

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Monday, November 29, 2010

Just like he did with Batman, Axel Braun is putting his spin on Superman in an "oh so sexy" way. The trailer features some impressive (for porn) as Superman saves a plane that's about to go down. I can only imagine what's going to go down after that.

You don't get much from this, but I can guarantee you a few things: it'll be hilarious, and people will have sex in it.

J. Jonah Jameson Wins: The Spider-Man Musical Is Apparently A Mess

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Monday, November 29, 2010

Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, the most expensive musical in the history of musicals, launched a preview showing last night - and apparently had quite a bad showing. At least, that's what the multiple reports of the show are saying. Apparently show was called to a halt five times during the showing as the various high flying elements of the show screwed up, leading to apparent 45 minute intermissions. This caused such frustration that at one point an audience member got up and started screaming ""I don’t know how everyone else feels, but I feel like a guinea pig today -- I feel like it’s a dress rehearsal."

The New York Times also interviewed several members of the audience after the show, which was met with mostly negative responses, stating that the show didn't make much sense, the plot was muddy, and that they would not be recommending it. However, one six year old thought it was quite exciting, so it looks like a target audience was revealed.

On the plus side, New York Mayor J Jonah Jameson couldn't be more thrilled.

Image's Crazy Teaser Campaign Is Revealed As BUTCHER BAKER THE RIGHTEOUS MAKER

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Monday, November 29, 2010

It's been a very long and very odd road, but Image has finally revealed what their crazy teaser campaign is: it's a new book called Butcher Baker The Righteous Maker. The book will be written by Joe Casey (the Man of Action responsible for Godland) and Mike Huddleston (The Homeland Directive), and will be $2.99 (hooray!).

The cover is a nice close u of everyone's favorite male section - the stomach! This explains the "bb" element of the Image teasers, both as a double for "belt buckle" and Butch Baker.

Of course, the plus side of Image's crazy teaser campaign is that now I and the other MC members are rather interested in picking up this crazy looking book. Add to the fact that it's Joe Casey, and you have sold me on the first issue. While we don't know much about the story or anything surrounding it, we'll let you know more as we get the information.

Into the Fancave #1

- Posted by Joshua Mocle on Monday, November 29, 2010

SO IT BEGINS.

Welcome Guys and Dolls to Into the Fancave, a brand new column here on Multiversity. The concept here is simple: I've spent the last few years thinking pretty deeply about the sociological side of comics and I realized that I learn the most about the whos, whats, whens, wheres, whys and hows of the comics community by simply talking to the fans themselves (AKA YOU.) Simply put: if you love comics, I want to hear about it. A few weeks back we put out a call for interested interviewees and received an overwhelming response. Up to bat in this inaugural edition is Zach Stewart from Utah. Zach and I spoke last week about his history with the medium, some fond childhood memories and the importance of Wednesday evenings in his life. Clickity click below and enter Zach's fancave!

Review: Detective Comics #871

- Posted by David Harper on Friday, November 26, 2010

Written by Scott Snyder
Illustrated by Jock and Francesco Francavilla

Up-and-coming writer Scott Snyder (AMERICAN VAMPIRE) and acclaimed artist Jock (THE LOSERS) make their debut as the new ONGOING creative team of DETECTIVE COMICS!

In "The Black Mirror" part 1 of 3, a series of brutal murders pushes Batman's detective skills to the limit and forces him to confront one of Gotham City's oldest evils.

Plus, in the start of a COMMISSIONER GORDON second feature also written by Scott Snyder, when a figure from the past returns to Gotham, Jim Gordon must face some of his darkest demons. Featuring; Art by Francesco Francavilla (GARRISON).
To say that I am excited about Scott Snyder taking over Detective Comics is the understatement of the year...I am beyond excited. Snyder quickly turned into one of my favorite up-and-coming comic writing talents with his work on American Vampire, and based off interviews his Detective work with Dick Grayson was going to be something to behold. Plus, incredible art from Jock and a Jim Gordon back-up with Francesco Francavilla on art? How could this be bad?

Find out what I thought of this debut issue after the jump.

Friday Recommendation - DANGER DAYS: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Friday, November 26, 2010

This is a comic book website. Friday Recommendation is a staple article of the website, and one that I strive to make sure is updated on a weekly basis so that you, the reader, can have something to take with you as the "work week" ends.

However, despite this being a comic website, this is a music recommendation. That might seem a tad screwy at first, but the connections are there - lead singer Gerard Way is an avid comic fan and writer of the book Umbrella Academy, and his brother Mikey also write a Scarecrow short story in a DCU Halloween Anthology. On top of that, Danger Days is slated to become a comic book itself (last I saw it was rumored that Becky Cloonan was doing art?), and Grant Morrison has been an active part of the band's rather lush music videos.

So with that in mind, if you're looking for a good new CD to grab and listen to on all those drives you'll be making this weekend, check behind the cut. This is a good one (and you can trust me on this as well - I have a college degree in audio engineering, so I wouldn't lie to you).

"Blackest Friday" Infects DC's Digital Store

- Posted by David Harper on Friday, November 26, 2010

"Black Friday" is the biggest shopping of the day, and if you're willing to brave insane crowds and incredibly early mornings (here's a hint...I'm not), you can get a lot of savings out of the deal. DC, not wanting to miss out on an opportunity, is having a big sale across their digital presence via ComiXology.

"Blackest Friday" will be lasting until Friday evening at midnight EST, and the deal is this: any part of Blackest Night, any tie-in, any issue of the event comic, will be sold for just $.99. These issues will be coming down from a $1.99 or $2.99 price point (depending on the issue, of course), and it's a deeply discounted deal that shouldn't be missed of those who missed the event OR those who are just huge fans. Check it out before it's too late.

Review: Green Arrow #6

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Thursday, November 25, 2010

Written by JT Krul
Illustrated by Diogenes Neves

Green Arrow infiltrates Queen Industries to confront the Queen head-on. What shocking revelations will she reveal – and why is she wearing his mother's ring? The answer may drive Ollie over the edge – again! And what lurks in the shadows that may spell the Emerald Archer's doom?

I'm a fan of Green Arrow, but I won't lie - this issue is the very definition of "make or break" when it comes to following a title. It's actually the only issue I didn't pre-order. So as I grabbed this off the shelf instead of a pull and took it home to read the "end" of the first arc, did Green Arrow remain in my buy pile? Find out after the cut.

Review: Teen Titans #89

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Thursday, November 25, 2010

Written by JT Krul
Illustrated by Nicola Scott

Heads up, Teen Titans! There's a new hero in town, and while Damian might not want to join you, he's more than happy to lead you! There should always be a Robin on the team, but if Damian is their only available option, maybe they'll pass on having a Boy Wonder. Hopefully he'll be able to help against the terrible menace of the rising villain, Headcase!

As a regular detractor of his work elsewhere in the DCU (see: various reviews of the Rise of Arsenal and Blackest Night: Titans), I actually found myself quite enjoying his first issue of his take on the Teen Titans. Yesterday found me with a new issue (and a gorgeous Frank Quitely variant at that), so what's the verdict two issues in? Check behind the cut for my thoughts.

Advance Review: Skullkickers #3

- Posted by Joshua Mocle on Wednesday, November 24, 2010

Written by Jim Zubkavich
Illustrated by Edwin Huang
& Misty Coats

"ONE THOUSAND OPAS AND A DEAD BODY," Part Three
A pilfered poison pabulum has pickled pieces of our protagonist's paunch while portentous poetic prophecies proudly parade apace, parlaying a perilous paradigm. Paraphrasing: SKULLKICKERS is a particularly perfect packaged pamphlet of plucky pulp worth every precious penny in perpetuity. Purchase!

Man this book is fun! Not all comics need to be loaded down with gritty, eye popping violence or vague, semi-meaningful symbolism or blah blah *insert things hipsters like about comics.” Sometimes a book can just be light hearted, silly and have “making the reader smile” as a goal in and of itself. Skullkickers is one of those books, and despite picking it up mostly on a whim based entirely on the idea that “if Image is investing in a new property, it must be good”, I’ve really been enjoying myself. Clickity click to find out what I thought of the newest issue!

Fear Hits The Internet In First Live Action Parallax Image

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Wednesday, November 24, 2010

Apparently leaked from an upcoming issue of Green Lantern, the above image is our first look at Parallax since our first kinda look at Parallax. This past issue of Green Lantern featured a bit in it by Geoff Johns talking about the new movie with a nice photo attached of Hector Hammond, so it makes sense that we'll see Parallax too in the upcoming issue. Thanks to the power of the internet, you don't have to wait that long!

It actually looks pretty darn good, if you ask me. It definitely has the space bug part down well. It'll be interesting to see how the creature features in the film, and what course of action it's influence will play on Hal and Sinestro, respectively.

"Buffy" Reboot Coming with No Joss Whedon, Worldwide Riots Unconfirmed

- Posted by David Harper on Monday, November 22, 2010

If you're interested in making the Internet angry, start a rumor about "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" being restarted without Joss Whedon. If you want to make it violently angry, actually do so.

That's what Warner Bros. did today, as they announced they are going to go-ahead and reboot the franchise with no ties to the original Kristy Swanson starring flick or the beloved TV series Whedon created and Sarah Michelle Gellar starred in. The production team includes newcomer Whit Anderson and Dark Knight producer Charles Roven, but no Whedon to be seen.

If you want something with a cult following to be a success with that audience, you have to give them what they want. Warner Bros.? They did the exact opposite. Fear the wrath of "Buffy" fans Warner Bros., as currently both "Joss" and "Whedon" are trending on Twitter (curiously enough, "Joss Whedon" is not) due to fan vitriol. We'll see how this goes for them, or how this affects the current comics. See the reaction of Whedon here.

The new "Buffy" is set to launch in late 2011 or 2012.

Butler, Lee Collaborate on Marvel Adaptation of "Emma"

- Posted by David Harper on Monday, November 22, 2010

For those literature fans out there, Marvel is bringing another literary favorite to the world of comics, as novelist Nancy Butler and Multiversity favorite Janet K. Lee are set to adapt Jane Austen's "Emma." While this isn't a book that most comic fans would look to buy, the talent of the two creators and the sheer beauty Lee will likely bring to the table may be too much for this reader to pass up even at $3.99 (just like I find the "Oz" books so difficult to pass up).

This book is coming in March from Marvel.

"Locke & Key" TV Show Details Coming Out

- Posted by David Harper on Monday, November 22, 2010

For those that aren't reading it, IDW's "Locke & Key" from Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez is an outstanding book. Its blend of horror and just remarkably solid comic book storytelling has earned it a lot of fans, and now it is being developed into a TV show for Fox with a pilot coming in the near future.

Details are starting to come out today, and it looks like one of the leads and director are now for all intents and purposes set.

Miranda Otto of Lord of the Rings fame (she played Eowyn) is set to play the Matriarch of the Locke family, Nina. Her role is a potentially juicy one, but I'm most intrigued by the casting of the kid roles. Still, it's a good start.

The director, if negotiations go well, will be Mark Romanek of Never Let You Go fame (the 2010 drama that earned stellar reviews and stars new Spider-Man Andrew Garfield). Most well known for his dynamic and exciting ads, Romanek is a director on the rise who could turn this show into a visual powerhouse.

It's a nice start, and I can't wait to see more details.

The Walking Dead Review: "Vatos"

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Monday, November 22, 2010

With the fourth episode of The Walking Dead, we get what is arguably the most anticipated episode yet: Robert Kirkman's episode. The creator of the Walking Dead comes in to write not only his first episode, but his first ever teleplay. Expectations are high, and there are certainly things that anyone used to Kirkman's writing in the comic would assume would happen.

So - with the stakes certainly as high as they're going to get for the show until the finale, how did Kirkman do in his episode of the Walking Dead? Find out my thoughts after the cut.

As a note, spoilers are discussed.

Review: Hellboy: Double Feature of Evil

- Posted by David Harper on Sunday, November 21, 2010

Written by: Mike Mignola
Illustrated by: Richard Corben

Eisner Award-winning horror masters Mike Mignola and Richard Corben present this bloodcurdling double--feature comic with Hellboy entering two very different, but very deadly, houses--a carnivorous home and a pagan temple, both hungry for human sacrifices.
Anytime the names "Mignola" and "Corben" are on the front cover of a comic, I'm buying it. That's a fact. Does this issue live up to the awesome of this year's "Hellboy in Mexico?"

Find out after the jump.

- Posted by David Harper on Sunday, November 21, 2010

This week on David's Got You Covered, our look at the top covers of the week, we have a pretty light week. I try to keep this list to 5, but this week only found 4 covers that stood out to me as a reader and as a fan of covers. They are all fine examples of the art of the cover though, and you can find out what my choices are after the jump.

Watch This: My Chemical Romance's "SING" Video

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Friday, November 19, 2010

My Chemical Romance's new album comes out next week (expect a review from yours truly!), but before you get it and listen to it, check out the above video for "SING." The video once again features Grant Morrison as his evil villain character, Korse. As he reveals in an interview at Hero Complex:

Korse is an exterminator for the S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W unit of Better Living Industries. His extensive back story has yet to be revealed but he’s intimately connected with the Killjoys and their secret history. He’s a remorseless human bloodhound, a hunter who dresses like an undead, post-apocalyptic Doc Holliday.

This does help a couple things make more sense, such as what "S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W/" is. Of course, by the time you finish the video, you'll be wondering, "Wait... this is the fourth track! This can't possibly be this song's story, can it?" Given the lyrics and the track placement, I would imagine not. It also doesn't exactly connect with the other music video for "Na na na," but that's ok. To be honest, MCR make a good video. Plus: Grant Morrison vs. Gerard Way! Two men enter...

The new album comes out next week. Don't forget to order your uber expensive exclusive California 2019 Edition exclusively at MCR's site.

Review: Superman #705

- Posted by Gilbert Short on Friday, November 19, 2010

Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Illustrated by: Eddy Barrows

The “Grounded” storyline continues right here as Superman visits Mt. Prospect - a suburb just southeast of Chicago. In this issue, Superman discovers that there is a darkness even more immense than outer space… One buried deep inside the human heart!

J. Michael Straczynski’s run on Superman continues, with a stop near Chicago. With such an ambiguous cover, you’re not EXACTLY sure what’s going on. Who hit this kid? Are there bullies? Is it his parents? Who knows! Just check the review after the cut to find out!

Review: Thunderbolts #150

- Posted by Walter Richardson on Friday, November 19, 2010

Written by: Jeff Parker
Illustrated by: Kevin Walker

Iron Man, Thor and the original Captain America guest-star in this 96-page 150th blow-out issue! First, in the 40-page lead story, The Thunderbolts reach their milestone as loudly as possible, when the golden figures of the Marvel Universe come to their gray world--none other than the Armored Avenger, the God of Thunder and the Super-Soldier! Thor has come to hold court with one of his people held in the women's wing of The Raft, and when his fellow Avengers join him, things go to a realm no one expected! Iron Man comes face-to-face with Ghost, the man who almost killed him, and Steve Rogers confronts the man who did kill him, Crossbones!
I read the first issue of Jeff Parker's post-Siege Thunderbolts and enjoyed it, but for some reason I stopped there. Have I been making a big mistake? The only way to find out is to follow the cut.

Gaze Into the Fist of Karl Urban

- Posted by Walter Richardson on Friday, November 19, 2010

Courtesy of Rich Johnston of Bleeding Cool fame/infamy (who in turn received it from comic art superstar Jock), we have our first look at Karl Urban as Judge Dredd, everyone's favorite lawman. After seeing Red (and the various other movies he has done well in) I'm sure that I'm not the only one who thinks Urban will do an exceptional job as Dredd. Expect to see the film in 3D at some point in 2012, and keep coming to Multiversity Comics for more news on Dredd.

Friday Recommendation: Fear Agent

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Friday, November 19, 2010

As far as reading goes, I've had a rocky reading relationship with Rick Remender. I'm unsure why: he's an absolutely great guy (we chatted with him at NYCC), and his comics tend to be a lot of fun (see: Black Heart Billy). However, once he got to Marvel, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit offput by Franken-Castle. That and the kitten killing stuff in Punisher, but that's because I'm the world's biggest fan of cats.

However, outside of Marvel, Remender has been writing a science fiction series that is so good, it makes things like killing kittens (no, I can't let that stuff go apparently) not so much a big deal. In fact, between this comic and the first issue of Uncanny X-Force, I'd say I'm pretty much willing to read anything with Rick Remender's name on it. That's how good it is. And that comic? Fear Agent.

All cat comments and somewhat humorous anecdote aside, check behind the cut for some news about a book you should've been reading five years ago.

Trouble - The Greatest Comic Ever - To Finally See A Collection

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Thursday, November 18, 2010

As pointed out by Sean Collins of Robot 6 via Corey Blake, Mark Millar's best comic ever is seeing print in 2011. That's right: Trouble is making it's way to shelves in hardcover!

If you haven't read this comic, then you are probably unsure of what you're missing. In 2003, Marvel revived the Epic imprint with the idea that it could a) revamp Spider-Man's origin with Mark Millar and b) create a succesfull romance/young adult comic. What we got was Trouble (pun intended), a comic by Mark Millar with art by the Dodsons (Terry and Rachel), starring two young girls who go on vacation to work at a hotel (similar to the plot of Dirty Dancing) where they meet two young boys and sparks fly. Of course, that's just the tip of that iceberg.

The reason fans have such a reaction to Trouble is two big things. The first is that the covers of the single issues, based on the content inside, was borderline inappropriate - especially since the story revolved around the legally termed "statutory rape" (i.e. when one participant of a specific act is below the age required to legally consent to the behavior, or 18 years of age). I mean, just take a look here to the right at that cover. Does that strike you as something appropriate for a comic book with adult content geared towards young adults? Granted, we all know that kids are going to have sex if they want to, but that certainly didn't help the case of the comic which promoted rather rampant promiscuity. However, the second thing (and oddly enough, the bigger thing) was that the characters in question were actually Peter Parker's parents as well as his aunt and uncle, and the big twist of the story is that Peter is actually Aunt May's child.

Needless to say, the fan reaction wasn't positive. I won't even begin to get into the continuity/timeline errors presented by this story.

However, what I will say is that if you want to read it, the good news is that it'll be out June 28th, 2011! You can pre-order right here! The other good news is that if you DO want to read a good young adult revamp of Spider-Man's origin, there is always Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane.

BRIGHTEST DAY blazes on as the New Guardians seeking the Indigo Entity are shocked to discover a sedated Black Hand. Can Hal Jordan trust the Indigo Tribe to house the herald of Nekron?
Unfortunately this book and The Flash have been put on the back burner while Geoff Johns focuses on Brightest Day, but both books tend to be worth the wait. Dennis Leary Wants To Be Your Captain Stacy

- Posted by Joshua Mocle on Thursday, November 18, 2010

Word on the street is that career asshole and Rescue Me star Dennis Leary is in final talks to portray Captain George Stacy, father of Gwen Stacy, in the upcoming Spider-Man film reboot. Once he dots his I's and crosses his T's on this one, he'll join the (rumored) Sally Field and (confirmed) Martin Sheen on the already impressive adult half of the cast. Despite having one of the most recognizable Boston accents in the industry, Leary sure gave us a convincing New York Firefighter performance in Rescue Me, so the jump to the fictional NYPD shouldn't be much of a stretch. On top of that, his work on the Ice Age franchise proves that he can do "family friendly" fairly well. Frankly, a slightly more gruff and foul mouthed Captain Stacy could turn out to be a great fit!

Review: Northlanders #34

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Thursday, November 18, 2010

Written by: Brian Wood
Illustrated by: Riccardo Burchielli

In the middle of all the blood, all the burned churches, all the scorched land, all the fouled water, all the dead bodies, all the stinking battlefields, all the smoky skies, all the hate and pain and anger and prejudice, Erik and Ingrid encounter a moment of such pure and shining happiness that it overwhelms them entirely. Is it too late for redemption? "Metal" concludes here!

This is my first time ever attempting to review Northlanders. I am a big Brian Wood fan, but I find Northlanders the hardest of his books to discuss because it's not as straightforward as his other comics. Check out my thoughts on the latest issue behind the cut.

Review: Legion Of Super-Heroes #7

- Posted by Joshua Mocle on Thursday, November 18, 2010

Written by: Paul Levitz
Illustrated by: Yildiray Cinar & Francis Portela

The first strike of Durlan assassins arrives on Earth! Their goal: kill the United Planets leadership as revenge for R.J. Brande's death…while posing as Science Police officers!

I’ll be blunt; I was a pretty late adopter of this book. If it weren’t for a 50% off sale at my LCBS I probably would not have ever gotten around to trying it out, however once I did I went and got myself completely caught up right after last issue hit the stands. While there are plenty of team books out there, this one has a very real charm to it that is undeniable. I suspect the reason for that charm is the sheer love Paul Levitz has for these characters. He did, after all, make his name in comics working on them back in the day and his return to them has been one of the most anticipated reunions of creator to character in a good long while. While some of the last few issues have been lots-o-talky and less punchy punch, it’s nice to see widescreen futuristic brawls that this issue gives us.

I AM AN AVENGER! Plus: another chapter in the oral history of the Avengers!
I'm normally a fan of Brian Michael Bendis, but if you have been visiting Multiversity for a while then you know that I've been very tentative towards his new adjective-less Avengers since the start. Was the beginning of this new arc the issue to finally sell the series to me? Find out after the cut.

The Cape Is NBC's First REAL Super Hero

- Posted by Matthew Meylikhov on Thursday, November 18, 2010

NBC has released this thirty second teaser for their upcoming Heroes replacement television show, The Cape. Featuring Keith David and Summer Glau, the show stars David Lyons as "Vince Faraday, an honest cop on a corrupt police force, who finds himself framed for a series of murders and presumed dead. He is forced into hiding, leaving behind his wife, Dana (Jennifer Ferrin, "Life on Mars") and son, Trip (Ryan Wynott, "Flash Forward"). Fueled by a desire to reunite with his family and to battle the criminal forces that have overtaken Palm City, Faraday becomes "The Cape" his son's favorite comic book superhero -- and takes the law into his own hands."

What gets me about this is this is the first time I've seen on NBC or ABC an actual super hero, cape and all. Heroes was a rather notorious tease, and has Smallville put Superman's cape on him yet? No? Ok. So this show has the full get up as well as special "super hero effects", such as the magic cape with the magic smoke that is definitely not Batman. Snarky comments aside, this could be pretty entertaining all things considered.

The show will air as a two-hour pilot in January. Look for a review from us around the same time.

We've all jumped on the collective Jeff Paker bandwagon with Thunderbolts, but we're still all pretty sour on the Rulk. Three issues in, and how is Parker cutting it with the character everyone loves to hate? Find out my thoughts after the jump.
