The weird thing about doing this column is that I have to look at comics so far ahead. I can’t even think of what next week looks like sometimes. Dark Horse has a lot of great collections out in February so much of list features advance solicits. Let’s jump into this month’s picks.

10. The Fight Ends

I must admit, while I like “Fight Club”, I never felt a sequel was really needed. I had a tough time connecting with this miniseries but I loved what the art team of Cameron Stewart and Dave Stewart were doing. I’d love to see the two of them work together again in the future.

Fight Club 2 #10
Chuck Palahniuk (W), Cameron Stewart (A), Dave Stewart (C), David Mack (Cover), and Steve Morris (Variant cover)
On sale Feb 24
FC, 32 pages
$3.99
Ongoing
The most highly anticipated comics series of the year ends in the biggest way possible—the whole world burns away according to Tyler’s plan, and a new one he never anticipated is conceived. The meek inherit the Earth, and a final showdown proves that, finally, Roland Barthes is right!
• Chuck Palahniuk writes the sequel to Fight Club!
“Full of more surprises than a Cracker Jack box, it’s a great expansion of an already strange universe.”—Fangoria

9. Come At Me Bro

I’m not going to actually buy this but I’m really excited that they put him in this pose. Look at him, he’s daring you to come at him. The last season of this show was kind of a mess but this one scene was pretty bad ass and totally became a meme for a little bit.

Game of Thrones: Night’s King Bust (advance solicit)
On sale Apr 15
8 3/4″ tall, arm span is 12″
$129.99
One of the most dramatic moments in season 5 of HBO’s adaptation of Game of Thrones is when the Night’s King, demonic leader of the White Walkers, raises the fallen wildlings in the aftermath of the massacre at Hardhome.
Arms raised as if he is a conductor orchestrating a crescendo, his otherworldly blue eyes demonic as they challenge Jon Snow, it is a pivetal moment in the award-winning saga.
Drawing on the skills of sculptor Dave Cortes, Dark Horse has captured this moment in all its detail.
This limited-edition bust (edition size not yet determined at press time) is sure to be the centerpiece of any Game of Thrones collection.

8. A Different Take On A Classic?

Dark Horse is really known for their licensed properties and they do a really great job with what they have. The worlds of Alien and Predator recently came together for a big crossover event but this hardcover is something totally different. This hardcover is a story that existed close to 30 years ago and hasn’t been reprinted since. It features a story that had to be changed thanks to the third Alien film and for me, that’s kind of an exciting premise. Plus it’s an oversize hardcover which just allows you to enjoy the art even more.

Aliens 30th Anniversary: The Original Comics Series HC (advance solicit)
Mark Verheiden (W) and Mark A. Nelson (A/Cover)
On sale Apr 26
b&w, 184 pages
$39.99
HC, 8″ x12″
For the thirtieth anniversary of Aliens, Dark Horse is releasing an oversized hardcover edition of the unabridged and unadulterated series!
In 1988, Dark Horse’s Aliens, with stunning art by Mark A. Nelson and a script by Mark Verheiden, took the comics market by storm…until the release of Alien3 forced the story to change.
• First major comics work by Mark Verheiden, who went on to write The Mask, Timecop, Battlestar Galactica, Daredevil, and many other films and television shows.

7. Lara Croft Begins…Again

So as I’ve said many times, I’m not really into video games but “Tomb Raider” #1 may be a well worthwhile read thanks to Mariko Tamaki taking over writing duties. “This One Summer” is a fantastic book so it’ll be interesting to see what she does with Lara Croft.

6. Fight With Ideas

I’ve mentioned “The Tomorrows” on here a few times before but if you still haven’t read it, this is your chance to pre-order the collected edition. It’s a great story with lots of different, unique artists. That shift in art each issue is what gives this series such a unique perspective.

The future: Art is illegal. Everything everyone ever posted online has been weaponized against them. The reign of the Corporation is quickly becoming as absolute as it is brutal—unless the Tomorrows can stop it. Artists, terrorists, they fight with explosives, they fight with ideas, they fight to reclaim the future we sold. Collects issues #1–#6 of the series.
“The Tomorrows is a retro, smart, brightly colored and unrepentantly fun look at a dystopia unlike any other in comics right now.”—Comics: The Gathering
“The art in Tomorrows is appropriately gorgeous. It balances color and grime, realism and impression, to an ideal degree considering its subject matter.”—Comic Crusaders

5. Hellboy: Year Two Begins

So here’s the definition of an all star team up. New miniseries are usually good places to jump into the Hellboy universe if you’ve seen the movies. With this high quality creative team, this is a can’t miss.

Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: 1953—Beyond the Fences #1 (of 3)

4. Horror At It’s Finest

“Harrow County” is quietly one of the best comics going. This is an actually scary story thanks to the gorgeous work by Tyler Crook. The second volume is in stores in the spring so if you haven’t caught up, get caught up and pre-order the second volume before it’s too late.

Harrow County Volume 2: Twice Told TP (advance solicit)

Collects Harrow County #5–#8.
“Genuinely creepy, fun, and suspenseful.”—Jason Latour (Southern Bastards)

3. More Gaiman Comics?

I feel like every publisher is reprinting something written by Neil Gaiman this year. I’ve never read this but I’m a huge fan of his work. The solicitation looks really intriguing and Zulli’s cover is definitely enticing. It’s a short book but it looks well worth the purchase.

The Facts in the Case of the Departure of Miss Finch HC (Second Edition)

2. What Happened To All The Bad Guys?

This was my number one pick last month but my hype level is still really high. I can’t wait for “Leaving Megalopolis” especially since this issue promises to give us some much needed answers.

Leaving Megalopolis: Surviving Megalopolis #2

1. Payback Is A, Well You Know How To Finish That

Do you like superhero comic books that have a sense of humor? Do you want to laugh your pants off? Then “The Paybacks” is for you!
