The Humans Volume One

Next week brings the arrival of the first collected volume of Tom Neely and Keenan Marshall Keller’s “The Humans“, a comic from Image that somehow bridges the gap between “The Warriors” and “Planet of the Apes” that finds The Humans (an ape biker gang) fighting for territory and whatever in the hell else they please. It’s a batshit crazy book, and one that stands out even amidst the rest of Image’s line. It’s also a very visually interesting take on a dystopian future, and one with enough spirit to inspire artists everywhere, like Kristina Collantes, Benjamin Marra, Johnny Ryan, Skinner and Katie Skelly, all of whom contributed pin-ups to the first volume.

And maybe, you’ll be the next artist to be inspired, as we’re hosting an art contest in conjunction with the creative team and Image. The contest is simple: create a piece of art related to “The Humans”, submit it to humansforlife@gmail.com by Monday, March 9th, and you could win some serious swag. What could you win? Let’s tale a look:

First Place: Signed copies of “The Humans” Vol. 1 and “The Humans” #0, a Humans t-shirt, a Humans patch, and your pinup will be featured in an upcoming issue or collection of the book

Second Place: Signed copy of “The Humans” Vol. 1 and a Humans t-shirt and patch

Third Place: Signed copy of “The Humans” Vol. 1 and a Humans patch

The only real rule is this: you can’t be a professional artist. That’s it! If you’re not, get your art together and into the team and you could win some great prizes. The creative team and Collantes will be selecting the winners, and if there are enough good entries, the team may even give away a couple extra copies of the #0 issue as well! So what are you waiting for? Let’s see some awesome Humans art, and if you’re looking for extra inspiration, check out this pin-up from Collantes that will be in the first volume. We’ll be debuting the pin-ups all week, and this is just the start.
