A Note on Reader Polls:

Since we switched to Google Forms for Reader Polls, the instant results haven’t been viewable, so we’ve been putting the results in the Monday Rundown. However, it appears that people didn’t realize this. So, we will experiment with doing a separate post to recap the results of the poll on Monday morning. Thanks, as always, for reading and voting!

80s nostalgia hasn’t been far from anyone’s mind over the past couple of decades. It’s odd, for a decade associated with some truly horrific things – AIDS, crack cocaine, hair metal – it is constantly being referenced and put on a pedestal. That is especially true by people who don’t remember the bad things because they were children or not yet born in the ‘Me’ decade.

That said, the 80s was also the decade when television became more diverse, with cable television really driving the personalization of entertainment. Like sports? We’ve got a network for that! A news junkie? We’ve got that, too! And so, because of that, we saw networks able to focus their attention on new types of shows. And so, when you look at what was broadcast that decade, it is a weird mishmash of family sitcomcs, animated series, and the earliest attempts at prestige dramas.

All of this is to say that, as we are fond of saying, we want comics based on some of these properties! We polled our staff and came up with a quality list of potential series. Now, some of these had comics 25+ years ago, but we tried to keep it to things that could be shaped into something new, instead of carry on an older book’s path.

And, to put a little more skin in the game, we will be writing a future installment of ‘We Want Comics‘ about the winner! So, vote in the poll, check back on Monday for the results, and look for the We Want Comics later this summer!
