This month marks the big-screen debut for Carol Danvers in Marvel’s new Captain Marvel film. Danvers is the current hero under that moniker, but she’s far from the first to be called that. In 1939, the first Captain Marvel, Billy Batson, was introduced by Fawcett Comics, before eventually being purchased by DC Comics. Now called Shazam, he’s getting his own film next month. But we’re not talking about him today.
But over at Marvel, Carol still isn’t the first Captain Marvel. Mar-Vell and Monica Rambeau are, perhaps, her most famous predecessors, and many still have a soft spot for them. Of course, others, including many of us at Multiversity, are die-hard Carol fans, following her since her beginnings as Ms. Marvel back in 1968.
So, of all the Marvel heroes, who is your personal favorite Captain? Whose comics do you cherish more than the others? Vote in our reader poll, and give us your reasoning the comments!
