A Note on Reader Polls:
Since we switched to Google Forms for Reader Polls, the instant results haven’t been viewable, so we’ve been putting the results in the Monday Rundown. However, it appears that people didn’t realize this. So, we will experiment with doing a separate post to recap the results of the poll on Monday morning. Thanks, as always, for reading and voting!
Robert Kirkman shocked the comics world when word leaked out on Monday that “The Walking Dead” was ending this week. It was a move that allowed him to tell his story in the best possible way, but probably made life hell for various comic store owners/clerks across the world. But the abrupt ending got us thinking: in this world of reboots, relaunches, and create team changes, what were the best comic series endings?
The question isn’t as simple as you may think. Big 2 comics rarely ever end, and even some creator owned work returns for a victory lap years later. We tried to be judicious with our choices, and only picked a couple of instances where the character continued on, and in those instances, it was in a very different role/tone than the one in the ended title (like Hellboy existing beyond “Hellboy in Hell,” for instance).
So, which is your favorite? Which ending made you appreciate the final issue all the more? Vote in our poll, and check back on Monday for the results!
