Welcome back to Boomb Tube! Here, we will be catching you up on the week in comics TV, both through micro-reviews, as well as links to our full-length TV reviews. We also tend to review series that are dropped all at once weekly so there are a few ‘older’ shows mixed in for good measure. Are we missing your favorite show? Let us know in the comments!

2023 is here and TV isn’t quite back into the swing of things yet. That doesn’t mean we don’t have some shows to bring you from the last month or so, just less than usual. In the meanwhile, did you see our end of year coverage? Was your favorite comic-based TV show on the list? No? Don’t worry. There’s always 2023.

Dead End: Paranormal Park – “The Watcher’s Test” (S2E10, NETFLIX)

Quantum Leap – “Fellow Travelers” (S1E9, NBC)

As Quantum Leap moves into the back-half of its reboot’s first season, there is some momentum on both sides of the leap. “Fellow Travelers” sees Janice Calavicci captured and brought into the ‘home team’ fold, eliminating one of the repetitive elements that wasn’t really jelling. With Ben doing less indiscriminate talking to no-one and using his considerable brains to think through a situation, the episode felt more cohesive and well-structured than many of the first season thus far.

Bringing Janice into the fold and allowing her gripes with Magic and co. to come to the light will allow the Team Quantum Leap stuff to have some drama that isn’t unseen family drama (like we saw earlier with Jenn’s father) or boiler plate military funding issues (like Magic sidestepped earlier). We see this team attempting to work together to both accomplish Ben’s goal in leaping – to save Addison – and to bring Ben home.

Guest star Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood) works really well as a pop singer from the 70s, and the mission itself worked as an actual mystery. When Quantum Leap is firing on all cylinders, it has multiple layers of intrigue happening at once, and “Fellow Travelers” absolutely fits that bill. Even Addison had a little more spunk this week, even if she still remains an underutilized part of the series. – Brian Salvatore

Wednesday – “Woe What A Night” (S1E4, Netflix)

Any show with a cast filled with “teenagers” knows there has to be an episode centered around a dance, and “Wednesday” is no exception. The Rave’N dance is The Nevermore Academy version of a winter ball, and Wednesday is forced to be a part of the festivities. Not by choice initially because as she continues her case of who killed Rowan, it leads her to Xavier and his hidden art studio. While investigating the outside, he catches her, and as a cover, she says it’s because she wants to go to the dance with him. He’s pretty stoked because he does have a little crush on her, but he finds out quickly about the lie and ditches her for his ex, Bianca, who already has a little rivalry with Wednesday. The best thing about this show is that Wednesday sees through the teenage drama, like the audience, and it doesn’t bother her, especially after getting some of his DNA from the studio for the sheriff to run tests against.

Now what Wednesday does care about is her friends, one of those being Eugene, AKA her surrogate Pugsly. The two had devised a plan to watch over a cave they found in the forest for the monster, but she bailed to go dancing with Tyler at the last minute. Despite instructions to hang back, Eugene went solo, and things went haywire. He witnessed someone throwing explosives into the cave but was found and attacked. The Nevermore Academy mystery is still afoot, and it looks like it may have found another victim. Alexander Manzo
