Welcome back to Boomb Tube! Here, we will be catching you up on the week in comics TV, both through micro-reviews, as well as links to our full-length TV reviews. We also tend to review series that are dropped all at once weekly so there are a few ‘older’ shows mixed in for good measure. Are we missing your favorite show? Let us know in the comments!

Gen V – “#ThinkBrink” (S1E3, Amazon Prime)

Now, Marie has to get to the gritty aspect of being the new face of the campus and go to the gala charity auction in remembrance of Professor Brink. Marie is nervous enough about how to act for the gala, but she’s also dealing with her first fight with her friend/roommate, Emma, after trying to discuss the fact she has to purge to become small. Emma’s mom being on-campus for the gala only adds more fuel to the fire as she’s a helicopter mom, not only for her abilities but also to try and get her a TV deal. Her mom pitches a reality series show with a Vought producer about Emma that deals with her disorder rather than her actual personality or interests.

The two end up making up quickly in the bathroom, and since Emma is trying to avoid her mom, she goes outside to smoke and runs into Andre. He’s still reeling from the night before and almost getting killed while looking for Sam and explaining the situation to Emma. Since his dad is watching him since he missed the national interview with Marie, Andre can’t go further into where Sam might be, so he convinces her to go, simply for recon. She finds Sam quickly and, after he “tests” with random questions, realizes she’s real and offers insight, such as codes and maps of the facility. After a small victory, things go back quickly after they detect her and begin to punish Sam with electrocution; despite Andre’s instructions, Emma goes inside a guard’s ears and kills him from the inside out. – Alexander Manzo

Quantum Leap – “Ben and Teller” (S2E2, NBC)

With last episode’s time jump, it seemed that it was only a matter of time before there was a bombshell of some sort that would drop, and the most logical bombshell was that Addison has moved on in her life and was no longer in love with Ben, or at least, thinking him dead, moved on. That’s exactly what happened, and the tension from the actual leap – a bank robbery where eight people will die – at times felt like a relief compared to the emotional turmoil from the stuff happening at Project Quantum Leap.

That is a pretty impressive trick as, like I mentioned numerous times last season, the Addison/Ben relationship was, perhaps, the show’s weakest point. The show has always made us care about Ben, even when Addison was wooden. So, when we see Ben in peril, even when it relates to Addison, it still makes us root for him.

This episode continued the rebooted Quantum Leap pattern of making each leap more complicated and multi-layered. The fact that every episode tends to follow this pattern somewhat dampens the impact of each ratchet, but the show has become an effective procedural even without the home team stuff. With all of the secrets that the show holds in the present day, it adds an extra layer of intrigue to each week’s episode. While the end of this episode was expected, the emotional impact was felt in the realization that Ben never has time to mourn the loss of his relationship, his time as a leaper, or anything else, because he must constantly be leaping. It’s a sad life, and this week gave us a strong reminder of just how sad it has become. – Brian Salvatore
