Tomorrow is Independence Day in the United States, and we don’t just mean the anniversary of President Bill Pullman’s rousing speech. America is a flawed, fucked up institution, but it has inspired some amazing art over the years, including the creation of Jack Kirby and Joe Simon’s Captain America. Cap represents the theoretical ideals of this country, and has been a part of some of the best superhero stories ever made. We polled our staff for their favorite Captain America stories, and are sharing a selection of them as part of this week’s Reader Poll.
Obviously, this is an incomplete list, drawn from a small pool of folks, but the breadth in this list is pretty impressive, whether it is the Winter Soldier saga, some of Jonathan Hickman’s “Avengers” run, to Steve Englehart and Sal Buscema’s 1970s run.
So vote in our Reader Poll, and check back on Monday for the results. Please continue to stay safe, and challenge America on its bullshit.
