This month marks the 60th anniversary of the first appearance of Doctor Doom. Doom is one of the most interesting, nuanced, and important villains in all of comics, as well as one most associated with one superhero or, in this case, team. Doom is to the Fantastic Four like Lex Luthor is to Superman, the Joker is to Batman, or Sinestro is to Green Lantern; to understand the hero, you must understand the villain.
And so, when we were putting together this list, it obviously was very heavy with “Fantastic Four” issues. However, Doom has long since expanded into other comics, and this list is a great example of that. Who can forget Luke Cage asking the eternal question, “Where’s my money, honey?” or the Iron Man appearances? Doom is also at the heart of both “Secret Wars” events, two of the biggest Marvel events of all time.
