For me, and I suspect many, when we think of Halloween, our sights turn to horror films. And when it comes to horror films, the Universal Studios monster films of the 1930s-50s are among the most recognizable of any era. It has become commonplace to picture Frankenstein’s Monster with the squared off head and neck bolts of Boris Karloff, or Dracula as a suave man with a killer widow’s peak like Bela Lugosi. Those films evoke a strong tone and a set a mood that transcends time and space.

These characters have also been featured in a lot, and we mean a lot of comics. So for today’s Reader Poll, we want to know which of the classic seven Universal monsters (same number as the classic Justice League lineup. Coincidence? We don’t think so) is your favorite.

A quick note: it may be strange for some readers to see the Phantom the Opera on this list, but long before Andrew Lloyd Webber turned the story into a musical, two of the most famous versions of this story were the Lon Chaney and Claude Rains film versions.
