Original Harley Quinn voice actress Arleen Sorkin passed away last week, aged 67, following a years-long battle with multiple sclerosis that had forced her to retire in 2011. Few actors can be considered the co-creator of a comics staple, but Sorkin could, having inspired Paul Dini to cast her as the Joker’s then unnamed moll after a fantasy sequence she herself had pitched on Days of Our Lives, and subsequently informed the character’s name (Harleen), Jewish background, and unmistakable accent.
With that astonishing legacy in mind, we wanted to know: what is the best Harley Quinn comic? From “Mad Love,” Dini and Bruce Timm’s origin story for Dr. Quinzel, to the ongoings by Karl Kesel & Terry Dodson, and Amanda Conner & Jimmy Palmiotti, plus the many subsequent limited series and graphic novels, there’s plenty to choose from in the three decades since the character debuted on Batman: The Animated Series. So vote below, and be sure to check back for the results on Monday. R.I.P. Arleen; thank you for giving her her heart, soul, and wit.
