This week, “Powers of X” #6 closed the book on the introductory chapter of Jonthan Hickman’s X-Men run. The dual miniseries of “House of X” and “Powers of X” recontextualized just about everything in the X-books to an absurd level, bringing into question things like immortality and the singularity. The books are ambitious, beautifully illustrated, and some of the most compelling superhero comics we’ve seen in a very, very long time.
These 12 issues have allowed some to suggest that, even before the ‘Dawn of X’ line kicks off with “X-Men” #1 next week, that this is already in the pantheon of top-tier X-stories. While that may seem like hyperbole, or at least a situation of counting your chickens before they hatch, I’ve been reading comics for 30 years, and I can’t remember a time when the entire X-corner of the Marvel Universe felt this exciting and interconnected. So maybe it’s not too soon to call this an all-time classic?
