A week from right now, you can stroll up to your local cineplex, buy some popcorn, grab a way too large soda, and enjoy Avengers: Infinity War, the largest superhero film ever made. It’s sort of crazy to sit back and reflect on how we got here, how a once-laughably small slice of the film industry has become the biggest genre film has going for it right now. But that’s a conversation for another day. Today, we’re focused on the big question ahead of the film’s release: who’s not going to make it to Avengers 4?
Now, there are some people we can strike off that list instantly: we know that Black Panther, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, and Spider-Man have more films lined up, so it makes little sense to knock them off. While a stray Guardian lost wouldn’t totally spoil their upcoming films, that crew is a delicate balance that Marvel likely doesn’t want to disrupt.
Now, we know that both Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans are closer to the end than the beginning of their MCU days. We know there are logistical issues with making Hulk films. We’ve seen a reluctance for Marvel to give a solo film to War Machine or Falcon. And where the hell has Hawkeye been?
