Between their ‘Grand Design’ and ‘Life Story’ series over the past few years, Marvel has done a nice job embracing the history of their iconic characters in new ways. And, in doing so, they have emboldened their creators to take more chances and create more interesting works than the monthly, in-continuity, grind may allow. We already asked you in 2019 about which characters should get a ‘Grand Design’ title, but now we want to know: who would be ripe for a ‘Life Story’ comic?
Despite both being retrospective titles, ‘Life Story’ is a different beast. This is an ‘aging in real time’ story, and so even if the same characters, like the Fantastic Four, got treatments in both, the stories would be totally different. In compiling this lis, I tried to look for characters for whom aging wouldn’t always be quite so linear. For instance, we know Bruce Banner ages; does the Hulk? Would the breaking down of his other sense make Matt Murdock need to retire earlier? The X-Men version of this story would likely feature some crossover, but lots of new characters would show up in each decade. Captain America doesn’t really age the way the rest of us do, so how would that story be different? Would Blade age at all?
