Today marks the release of Black Adam and Gotham Knights, the former of which we’ll have our review of later today, the latter sometime next week. With comic book adaptations on the brain, we thought we might turn our minds to the portrayal of comics creators and fans in film instead: after all, not all comics are about superheroes, and some of the most acclaimed graphic books are cartoonists’ memoirs.
We’ve hopefully assembled a diverse array of movies, from Kevin Smith’s works, to world cinema, to ask the question: what is your favorite comic book/strip movie actually involving comics? Compiling the list, it was surprising to see how many movies there actually are about cartoonists, fictional or otherwise, even when the storyline doesn’t involve superhero culture. As always, vote in our Reader Poll ahead of the results on Monday, and feel free to tell us if there’s a favorite we missed — hopefully, you’ll discover a new one in the list too.
