It’s been almost a decade since the first Thor movie, and the ascendancy of Vikings and Norse mythology in popular culture seems to show no signs of slowing down: this year alone we’ve had Dark Horse’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “Norse Mythology,” Heavy Metal’s “Sun Eater,” and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, as well as Netflix’s Ragnarok, new seasons of The Last Kingdom and Vikings, and another Thor movie and God of War game on the way. So with all those, and even more in mind, we wanted to know: what is your favorite comic book about Norse characters?
To make this fair, we wanted to keep the list strictly Viking, and left out anything featuring a modern take on Norse mythology, so there’s no “Sandman,” “American Gods,” or “The Wicked + The Divine,” and certainly none of Marvel’s takes on Thor and friends. We’ve also left out the aforementioned in-progress series, like “Norse Mythology” — consider them all Odin’s Eye, sacrificed to reveal what is truly the best Norse comic book of all time. As always, be sure to tell us in the comments which favorites we may have left out: skål!
