With last week’s news of James Tynion IV as the new “Batman” writer, we’ve been thinking a lot about what makes a great Batman run. But the more we discussed this question, it became clear that this was a bigger conversation than just Batman. We expanded the criteria to extend to any Bat-book…but then we were overwhelmed.
So, as a compromise, we limited the conversation to just Bat-books since 2000. While that might seem like a small period of time, it is nearly 1/4 of the history of Batman. So, our staff compiled our favorite Bat-family books since 2000 and…we’ve got to say, the list is pretty impressive. It covers just about all the tones you’d want out of a Bat book, from the gritty and street level “Gotham Central,” to the Bat-family showcase that was James Tynion’s “Detective Comics.” We’ve also got a healthy dose of Batgirl, some Nightwing, and even a spotlight for Catwoman.
So, vote in our Reader Poll, and let us know if we forgot your favorite run!
