Reader Poll: What is Your Favorite Early Image Book?

By | April 24th, 2020
Posted in Reader Poll | % Comments

In our continued celebration of all things Image from 1992-1995, we want to know what our readers’ favorite early Image Comics title was. This is tricker than most Reader Polls that we’ve done, because it is very, very difficult to get a complete list of exactly what Image published during this time. Due to things falling out of print, rights issues, the various publishing houses that fell underneath Image’s umbrella, and the sad loss of ComicBookDB.com (RIP), we couldn’t find a ton of accurate data. So, if we forgot one of your favorite books, it was not intentional; please correct us in the comments!

But this list is still pretty massive, even accounting for potential missing books. This was such a fascinating time in the comics industry, and you see some books on here that have become absolute staples (“Spawn,” “Savage Dragon”), as well as some you may have forgotten (“Shaman’s Tears” “Trencher”), as well as some out of print classics (“1963”), and some clear cash grabs (“Homage Studios Swimsuit Special”). There are one-offs, abandoned series, ongoings that still hit shelves each month, and everything in between.

So, vote in our Reader Poll, and then check back on Monday for the results. Stay safe, everyone.

Homages to the superheroes of ages past are a regular feature of modern comics. Whether it’s “Mister Miracle” deconstructing Jack Kirby’s New Gods or “Pink Lemonade” creating a new Silver Age heroine in 2019, it is usually interesting to have artists recreate or re-imagine the characters and styles from comics’ history. “1963” is no exception.
