With no traditional San Diego Comic-Con going on, many of us have been getting by with the Comic-Con@Home panels and events to tide us over. But despite no real SDCC, the Eisner Awards are still being held tonight. While we did a poll awhile ago about which series should win the ‘Best Continuing Series’ award, it occurred to me that this is the first award of a new decade. And so, why not take the opportunity to look back on the decade that just passed, and see what series had won that award previously.
[Note: before someone complains, yes, the award is not for a full calendar year, and so the 2010 award is as much a 2009 award as it is 2010, and the 2020 award is as much a 2019 award as it is a 2020. We know this, but have fun with the poll]In what shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, “Saga” took home the award four different times. The Brian K. Vaughan/Fiona Staples series was a critical and commercial monster, and four Eisners seems like too few, somehow. “The Walking Dead,” “Chew,” “Monstress,” and “Southern Bastards” accounted for all but two of the other years, showing Image is clearly the favorite publisher of the Eisner awards. “Giant Days” and Mark Waid’s “Daredevil” were the only two non-Image series to win Continuing Eisners in the teens.
So, for this week’s reader poll, let’s pretend that there is a ‘Continuing Series Eisner for the 2010s’ award. Which of the series best represents comics in the past decade? Vote in the poll below, and check back on Monday for the results!
