Reader Poll Results: “Y: The Last Man” Had the Best Ending of All-Time

On Friday, inspired by the surprise ending of “The Walking Dead,” we asked you which comic series nailed its ending the most effectively. It was a relatively close race, with only 4% separating the first and second place winners, and just one point between second and third place.

Our readers voted “Y: The Last Man” the best series ending of all time with 19% of the vote. “Sandman” came in second with 15%, and “Hellboy in Hell” third with 14%. “Starman,” the actual answer according to senior editor Brian, came in fourth with 9%, and tied for fifth with 8% are “Preacher” and “Sweet Tooth.”

From both our choices and your votes, it is clear that Vertigo series were a cut above when it came to telling complete stories that had a true ending. These days, so many Image and Dark Horse series – the two other publishers with the most books on the list – tend to have books peter out without too much fanfare. So many of the newer publishers in the game are focusing on miniseries, which leads to a totally different tone to an ending.

Check back on Friday for our next reader poll and, as always, thanks for voting!
