This week sees the release of “Avengers” #1, the newest iteration of Marvel’s classic team. This is the ninth or tenth (there’s no way to actually know) volume of the title, and Jed MacKay and C.F. Villa are the latest in a crazy long line of creators who got their hands on the Avengers characters. And so, to celebrate this new volume, we want to know: what is your favorite run of “Avengers?”
Now, some ground rules: we organized this around writers, not writer/artist teams. We did this because the writers, specifically on “Avengers” titles, tended to outlast their visual artist partners by a significant margin. We also tried to highlight the runs that are more or less universally enjoyed, which is why, for instance, we only used the first year of Bob Harras’s run, before almost everyone on the planet turned on that book.
