This week, Marvel announced a sequel to 2014’s “Spider-Man: Reign.” For those who didn’t read it, “Reign,” written and illustrated by Kaare Andrews is a story set 30 years in the future, and acts as sort of a “Dark Knight Returns” for Peter Parker. The sequel itself is newsworthy, but there was one part of the press release that stood out, which was that “Reign” was described as the ‘most notorious Spider-Man story ever told.’ While “Reign” obviously has a place in that conversation, there are a lot of Spider-Man stories that may fall into that category. While any character that’s been around as long as Spidey is certain to have some missteps, or at least stories that make people take notice because of their boldness, Spider-Man, especially starting in the early 90s, seems to have more of those than most.
Is it the marriage erasure of “One More Day?” The ‘maybe Aunt May is actually Peter’s mom’ of “Trouble?” Is it the body swapping of “Superior Spider-Man?” Does the name ‘Ben Reilly’ send shivers up your spine?
Now, we should note that ‘notorious’ does not necessarily mean bad. We’re looking at the stories that took giant swings, some of which may have missed, but some of which may be fantastic as well.
So, vote in the poll, and check back on Monday for the results!
