Today marks the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the second feature film starring everyone’s favorite Blue Blur (and Jim Carrey), which left us wondering: who is the most popular speedster in comics? Sure, the Flash Family practically invented the term after Superman was introduced as being “faster than a speeding bullet,” but Sonic — a video game character who’s appeared in comics for decades now — may be even more beloved than any of them, or the other superfast heroes who’ve debuted in print since.
For the record, we decided to disqualify any characters who technically have superspeed, but can fly: this is strictly about the runners in comic books, and besides, that’s practically cheating. (Sorry Supes, Shazam, et al.) Have we missed out any other favorites? Be sure to let us know in the comments, and to check back for the gold, silver and bronze medalists on Monday.
