Reader Poll: Does The Walking Dead Need Its Core Characters Anymore?

This weekend, The Walking Dead premieres for another season on AMC. After already having lost (deep breath) Merle, Shane, Laurie, Carl, Glenn, Dale, Hershel, etc, this season sees the departure of Rick Grimes himself, Andrew Lincoln, as well as the (supposedly temporary) departure of Lauren Cohan, aka Maggie. For a show that was about clinging to family and loved ones in the time of crisis, there are precious few core characters left. Aside from Darryl, Carol, and Michonne, the show is pretty devoid of the characters that made it one of the most popular cable shows of all time.

But does that matter? For this show, set in this type of world, was the cast ever really that important? I’m honestly not sure, but I stopped watching the show years ago. What do you think? Can the show survive without Rick and Maggie? Does it matter at all? Vote in our Reader Poll, and sound off in the comments!
