Reader Poll: What does Wonder Woman 1984 Going to HBO Max Mean for the DCEU?

Earlier this week, we learned that Wonder Woman 1984 would be opening simultaneously in movie theaters and on HBO Max on December 25. This is a move that has a lot of fans equally happy and concerned.

On one hand, for those of us that are reluctant to return to movie theaters, this is a nice situation where we are able to see the film, already delayed six months, in the comfort and, more importantly, safety, of our own homes. The fact that HBO Max is offering it as part of their regular subscription, and not as an additional charge, like Disney+ did for Mulan, is also a nice surprise for subscribers, or even newcomers who can subscribe for one month for the price of a ticket to Wonder Woman 1984 and see literally hundreds of other films as a kicker.

On the other, this could mean trouble for the future of Wonder Woman sequels and, more broadly, the future of the DCEU in general. If AT&T/WB/HBO is content to throw a $200 million production onto its streaming service, it may mean that they don’t see superheroes as a major force in their plans going forward. And, with comics already taking a backseat in the corporate structure, that could mean these characters, more or less, disappearing, as unlikely as that probably is.

So, we want to know what you think this means. Vote in our Reader Poll, and check back on Monday for the results!

And, as always, be safe and wear a mask.
