New York City Comic Con may have happened close to a month ago but Multiversity Comics’s coverage of the East Coast’s largest comics and pop culture event is just getting going. Multiversity sent 14 of our staff to the event this year for interviews, panel reports, and more so expect lots more to come over the next few weeks. This way, even if you couldn’t make it yourself, you can still see the con through our eyes.

The week of the show saw the release of “Grendel: Devil’s Odyssey’s” first issue, bringing new readers and stalwart fans back to Matt Wagner’s long-running series about the many iterations of an evil aspect over centuries of human existence . . . with a new twist. That aspect’s apex expression, a cyborg warrior named Grendel-Prime, has been tasked with finding humanity a new home & second chance among the stars! Can this killing machine stick to the prime directive of his peaceful mission? Or will this stellar road trip quickly into a planet-hopping killspree?

First contact or last rite, one thing for certain is Odyssey‘s impressive creative pedigree. Wagner not only returns to write & draw the 8-issue mini with his son Brennan Wagner on colors once again, but each issue features a variant cover by a rotating team of artists like Gabriel Ba, Fabio Moon, Dan Schkade, Tyler Crook, and more. The vastness of space never looked so good!

For NYCC, Greg got a chance to sit down with Clan Wagner and ask a few questions about this new endeavor. Why now and why this era of the series? What inspiration were they taking from for their spin on space travel? Will this series be Grendel’s last frontier? Which of his father’s books would Brennan like a crack at recoloring? All that and more awaits you in this video interview!

Thanks to Matt, Brennan, and the folks at Dark Horse Comics for their time and the swanky interview digs. “Grendel: Devil’s Odyssey” #2 hits shelves tomorrow, November 6th.

Greg Matiasevich

Greg Matiasevich has read enough author bios that he should be better at coming up with one for himself, yet surprisingly isn't. However, the years of comic reading his parents said would never pay off obviously have, so we'll cut him some slack on that. He lives in Baltimore, co-hosts (with Mike Romeo) the Robots From Tomorrow podcast, writes Multiversity's monthly Shelf Bound column dedicated to comics binding, and can be followed on Twitter at @GregMatiasevich.
