Via the fine folks at Robot 6 who apparently read the interior front covers of their comics, this week’s crop of Marvel comic books now include a new addition: a credit to Jack Kirby.
Featured in “All-New X-Men” #33, “Fantastic Four” #12, “Inhuman” #7 and “Wolverine and the X-Men” #11, Marvel’s comics now feature the words “______ Created By Stan Lee and Jack Kirby” — or, in the case of “Death of Wolverine: Deadpool & Captain America” #1, “Captain America Created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby.” This is assumedly part of what was arranged as part of the settlement between Marvel and the Kirby Estate, in which a statement was released saying that Marvel and the Kirby Estate was “looking forward to advancing their shared goal of honoring Mr. Kirby’s significant role in Marvel’s history.” Neither side ever gave any further details, but it doesn’t feel unfair to assume in this case.
Either way, it’s a nice addition to the books — though very much a first step in what will hopefully become a much bigger endeavor to honor the legacy of the men and women whose imagination laid down all the important building blocks that everything is built upon today.
