The 2010 Eisner Award nominations are out today, and there is a lot to love in there. While the full nominations are in Walt’s post, I wanted to share some particularly great choices and some surprises from the whole of the nominations from my point-of-view:

Favorite Choices

  • Fiona Staples wonderful work on the Wildstorm mini-series North 40 being nominated for “Best Penciller/Inker or Penciller/Inker Team”
  • Karl Kerschl, Cameron Stewart, and Jeremy Love (incredible talents, all) getting nominated in the intensely competitive “Best Digital Comic” category
  • Mike Carey and Peter Gross’ The Unwritten getting a lot of well deserved love (Best Continuing Series AND Best New Series noms)
  • Beasts of Burden picking up two nominations
  • Our friends at ComicsAlliance earning a nomination for “Best Comics-Related Periodical/Journalism”

Surprises

  • No Scalped?! REALLY?! Have you read Scalped?! Not a single nomination?!
  • James Robinson getting nominated for the critically and fan reviled JLA: Cry for Justice (we love you James, but it was not your best work)
  • No Jock in the “Best Cover Artist” category
  • Planetary #27 not earning a nomination for “Best Single Issue (or One-Shot)”
  • No Multiversity Comics in “Best Comics-Related Periodical/Journalism”. Come on Eisner voters…what’s up with that?

What were some of your favorite choices? Anything surprise you? Who do you think will win? Let us know in the comments.
