We have a lot of great stuff in this week’s Art of the Week. First, Jorge Coelho brought it with two gorgeous pieces, one of one of the greatest rock musicians of all time. Then we have to tributes to the recently finished Brian Wood epic DMZ from Jorge Munoz  former Ultimate Spider-Man artist David LaFuente. Francesco Francavilla posted a striking interpretation of a classic movie poster. Finally, Stephen Mooney, Steve Ellis, Jamie McKelvie and Declan (or is it Duncan?) Shalvey provided some great superhero renditions featuring some popular heroes and villains from DC and Marvel.

The pick of the week, however, comes from James Harren at the Sindiecate. The use of colors made this an easy choice for the featured piece. Being a tribute to the Paul Pope mini-series Heavy Liquid, the colors are a natural choice, but that doesn’t diminish the impressive mixture of blues and pinks to make it jump off the screen. Great stuff!

Gilbert Short

Gilbert Short. The Man. The Myth. The Legend. When he's not reading comic books so you don't have to, he's likely listening to mediocre music or watching excellent television. Passionate about Giants baseball and 49ers football. When he was a kid he wanted to be The Ultimate Warrior. He still kind of does. His favorite character is Superman and he will argue with you about it if you try to convince him otherwise. He also happens to be the head of Social Media Relations, which means you should totally give him a follow onTwitter.
