Art of the Week (Week of 3/14/2012)

For this week’s Art Feature, there is a couple of great Marvel centric pieces: Tradd Moore’s Loki-inspired “Viking” themed piece and a Silver Surfer piece from Francesco Francavilla. From there we move on to a “Elephantmen” work from the ever amazing Ryan Ottley. From there, Gene Gonzales and Joe Pekar, the Two-Point Perspective Guys, both posted FANTASTIC Red Riding Hood pieces. From there, Michael Walsh posted not one but two fantastic British-inspired works, one featuring Sherlock and his nemesis, Moriarty, and the other featuring the fourth Doctor and the Cybermen! From there, we have two more Moebius tributes that David missed, but we won’t hold that against him. Finally, Tomm Moore closes it out with a haunting Shinto Concept piece.

That brings me to Wolverman. David shared it with me earlier this week, and I couldn’t help but make it the featured piece. If you know me at all, you understand why I chose the above piece by Dan McCaid. It’s silly and weird, and it reeks of the best of the 90’s. And most importantly, it’s a LOT of fun. Check out Wolverman’s heat claws and Luthortooth’s sweet jacket. Man, I love this piece! What a great week.

Gilbert Short

Gilbert Short. The Man. The Myth. The Legend. When he's not reading comic books so you don't have to, he's likely listening to mediocre music or watching excellent television. Passionate about Giants baseball and 49ers football. When he was a kid he wanted to be The Ultimate Warrior. He still kind of does. His favorite character is Superman and he will argue with you about it if you try to convince him otherwise. He also happens to be the head of Social Media Relations, which means you should totally give him a follow onTwitter.
