Art of the Week (Week of 5/16/2012)

Man, look at that Dustin Weaver piece featuring everyone’s favorite venom addict, Bane. Taken from one of my favorite arcs from Gail Simone’s cult-hit series “Secret Six,” it puts two things together that I love, comics, and dinosaurs. I’m always saying that dinosaurs make a book an instant buy, so it stands to reason it would also make a piece and instant feature!

Following Dustin Weavers indomitable work, we have a great Batman drawing from Leinil Yu. After Yu, Marcio Takara shared TWO lovely pieces from the DC Universe, the first a group piece that must be seen in full resolution to fully appreciate, and then a commission of the DC Universe’s avatar of Death.

From there, we move into the Marvel Universe, where Michael Walsh dove into to show us a piece featuring Jamie Madrox and then Joe Eisma shared another mutant piece, this time of popular X-Woman Rogue. Continuing our trek into the Marvel U, Dustin Nguyen posted a piece of a little known team called THE AVENGERS titled “Hulk Saves the Day, Again!”

Moving into indie creations, David Lafuente shares a piece featuring the popular Image superhero Invincible and Mahmud Asrar shares a piece from his “Decaying Bloom” series of post-apocalyptic themed works.

Finally, comic book power houses Francesco Francavilla and Rev. Dave Johnson share two re-interpretations of classic movies, with Jaws and Carrie respectively.

It was a big week this week, and everyone’s work is astounding. Great work to all!

Gilbert Short. The Man. The Myth. The Legend. When he's not reading comic books so you don't have to, he's likely listening to mediocre music or watching excellent television. Passionate about Giants baseball and 49ers football. When he was a kid he wanted to be The Ultimate Warrior. He still kind of does. His favorite character is Superman and he will argue with you about it if you try to convince him otherwise. He also happens to be the head of Social Media Relations, which means you should totally give him a follow onTwitter.
