David by Natalie Nourigat

After a week off, we’e back! This week, we have some superhero related stuff, along with some great movie related pieces, so let’s get down to it! The above featured piece is of Michael Fassbender’s character in the Ridley Scott sci-fi epic Prometheus, saying basically what I thought happened in the movie. I love Natalie Nourigat’s sense of humor in the piece, and it’s all around adorable. From there, we go for a jaunt into the worlds of Marvel and DC, starting a Justice League Beyond piece that shows the future DC Trinity with Barda, Superman, and Batman Beyond! From there, Michael Walsh gives us a somewhat romantic character piece featuring Batman and Zatanna, and Joe Pekar shared a lovely Mary Marvel work that brings the cuteness to 11. Leaving the DC Universe for two Marvel-inspired works, Dan McDaid provided a great Captain America/Judge Dredd piece for the upcoming Glasgow Comic Con (if you live in Scotland, you’d be silly not to pick up a copy of the print) and Declan Shalvey, one of the eclectic Micks, drew one of the best villains ever: DOCTOR DOOM.

After the Marvel and DC works, our column turns into unintentional feature for the Art Blog Brand New Nostalgia, whose John Carpenter theme gave us some incredible work! First up, Jorge Coelho drew a fantastic tribute to one of my favorite Carpenter flicks, THEY LIVE starring the indomitable “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, followed by Giannis Milonogiannis’ take on the classic sci-fi film, Escape from New York. Finally, Tradd Moore closes it out with a piece inspired by another Kurt Russel/John Carpenter joint: Big Trouble in Little China.

What a great week! We’ll see you next Wednesday!

Gilbert Short

Gilbert Short. The Man. The Myth. The Legend. When he's not reading comic books so you don't have to, he's likely listening to mediocre music or watching excellent television. Passionate about Giants baseball and 49ers football. When he was a kid he wanted to be The Ultimate Warrior. He still kind of does. His favorite character is Superman and he will argue with you about it if you try to convince him otherwise. He also happens to be the head of Social Media Relations, which means you should totally give him a follow onTwitter.
