Artist August: Francis Manapul (Art Feature)

If Francis Manapul was a baseball player, bloggers would be going nuts assuming he is on some form of steroids.

If he was a Tour de France cyclist, he would be the center of the world’s largest doping scandal.

If he was on Wheel of Fortune, he would solve the puzzle after no letters were revealed and cause Pat Sajak to nearly have a heart attack on stage because he was so utterly convinced this guy isn’t for real.

But Francis Manapul is for real, and he is thankfully an artist instead of those other things. One of the most talented ones in comics in fact, with art that seems to fit every book style and genre. His work has a weight and look to it that reminds you more of what would happen if a Norman Rockwell painting and some amalgam of brilliant comic book artists had a scandalous, drunken night together.

The guy is one of the best in the business, and I found myself hard pressed not to feature his work at least once during Artist August. Check after the jump to see the diverse brilliance from his DeviantArt page and beyond.
