It’s been a long time but I’m back to cover you guys. I appreciate all the other guys filling in and picking some great covers in my absence. I can honestly say that I liked all the covers the other guys selected. Now though it’s time for me to return to my baby and present you guys with some of the best covers this week has to offer.

Also, the cover artist rankings are returning as well. I have kept track of the other guy’s picks and I have added them to my records. So the rankings are up to date and ready to go as well. So what did this week have to offer up? Hit the jump to find out!

3. Batman: The Dark Knight #1
by David Finch

Awesome cover. I love Finch’s painted style and this cover really got me amped for the books release. I really like the darkness and the way the lighting of, what appears to be fire, the background reflects off the costume. It’s a very iconic looking Batman pose, which I like. To be fair though I am pretty sure we’ve seen the pose before.

Unfortunately, the book itself wasn’t quite as good as the cover.

2. Heroic Age: X-Men #1
by Jae Lee

Lee’s X-Men covers for Marvel lately have been money. So money. His Wolverine stuff has been stellar. I really appreciate the way this cover presents Xavier front and center in meditation while his X-Men seem to be hovering above as if a dream. It’s really a great concept. The Colossus figure looming in the front is one of the best interpretations of the character I’ve seen in a long while.

This cover leaves me asking when we’ll get some Jae Lee work on an interior. I want an X-Men mini pretty damn bad. Please Marvel?

1. Detective Comics #872
by Jock

Best book of the week and best cover of the week.

Everything on this cover works for me. Even the green outlined lettering works tremendously well to make the issue pop out at potential buyers and covers fans alike. The most obvious thing on the cover is that which makes it. That’s the Batman in a gas mask image. It’s really a cool piece. Jock’s placement of the crowbar in the eye is a nice touch. Speaking of nice little touches, the woven style gradient over the cover is nice and adds just a little something to it that makes the cover stand out even more.

Overall this is a very Jock cover and that’s a great thing when you’re a comic buyer. Hopefully he’ll keep putting together these beautiful covers for Detective Comics.

Now for those of you who have never read Burpee’s Got You Covered let me explain the cover artist rankings. At the end of every BGYC I list the top three cover artists as decided by how many times they’ve made their way onto the list for best cover of the week. It’s pretty straightforward. The more times you make the list the higher your ranking is. So as you’ll notice to the left of the artist’s name is their rank and to the right you’ll see how many times they’ve made the list.

Starting from here on out I’m going to start listing the Top 10 instead of Top 3. I think it helps to share the diversity of the list a tad more and it shows who’s closing in on the top spots. You’ll notice there are some serious ties going on once you get outside of the Top 3. So check out the rankings and then I’ll see you next week.

Cover Artist Rankings: Top 10

1. Adi Granov — 13
2. David Finch — 12
3. Jae Lee -6

4. Jock — 5

7. Chris Bachalo — 4
