It’s another week and another set of covers. I apologize that this week is a little late, but I was rather busy on Mother’s Day. Hope all the Mothers out there had a good one, and I hope that all of you with Mothers (whether biological or just in influence) took time out of your days to tell them, or at least try and let them know that you care.

Well what covers do we have this week? You know the drill. Hit the jump to find out!

3. Sweet Tooth #21

by Jeff Lemire

Ok, so in all honesty, this cover was not on my original list for this week. Hell, it wouldn’t have made it if I had just glanced at the shelves of my shop. When I got it home and sat there staring at it, though, I found that I loved it and just couldn’t stop looking at it.

I think this is a case of the art being just that damn awesome. There is nothing particularly amazing about the cover itself, but I really do love the art here. Lemire is a crazy great talent and I hope more of his projects moving forward involve him on art.

2. The Intrepids #3
by Scott Kowalchuk

My favorite part of this cover is the middle. The question mark and the question of WHAT is Jonah and not who is great. This simple question made me, as a reader, just stare at the cover and think about what that meant. Anytime you spend extra time pondering something on a cover, it has won and you have officially stumbled upon a quality cover. Its job is to draw you in and this is exactly what happened with me. I was going to buy the book anyway (because it’s really good) but the cover makes it the complete package.

I also would be remiss to mention that for some reason the glowing chest piece in the middle of the cover is also a small but effective touch that makes the rest of the cover pop.

Lastly, I really enjoyed the box pattern that overlays the rest of the images. It’s rare that you find a cover with this kind of overlay that isn’t truly distracting. Given time I think Kowalchuk could easily have his own covers collected edition. I know I’d buy it.

1. Spidey Sunday Spectacular #1

by Marcos Martin

Two things are interesting here – First being that this is the first time Martin has been on this list. I was genuinely surprised when adding the tallies to the list only to find that Martin wasn’t on the list already! The second thing is that I usually avoid putting covers that belong to reprints or TPB’s on here, but I couldn’t help myself here.

What made this cover so great that I forsook my own tendencies and unspoken rules? Well, the cover is just that well done. In all honesty, this cover hits all my marks for a good cover. This cover has great art and one of the best incorporations of the creative team’s names and title into a cover that I have ever seen. Just all around one of the better covers this week for sure.

————————————————–

There you have it! Some excellent and fun covers this week. Where does this leave the list? Well, as you can see below it leaves us at the exact same three we previously had. Not that exciting I suppose, unless you consider that the top hasn’t moved yet progress has been made from below. Anyway, here’s the top three as it stands at the moment:

1. Adi Granov — 13
2. David Finch — 12
3. Jae Lee -8

Well, I’ll see everyone next time. Feel free to hit the comment section below to discuss the covers that are on this list and more importantly the covers that you feel didn’t make the list but should have. Really, I just want to talk covers because I love them, so feel free to open a dialogue.
