August looks to be yet another month full of excellent offerings from a variety of publishers. Like last month my aim for this article is to share with you some of the titles I am most excited for in August based on the solicitations just recently announced. While some are obvious things that many will be stoked for others at times are ones that have a little something that makes me particularly stoked. So check out my picks after the jump to see if there is anything you and I agree with or disagree with. Let me know what titles you guys are stoked for in the month of August too. I’d love to hear!

So let’s get on with it shall we?!

1. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #640 & #641

Written by Joe Quesada, penciled by Paolo Manuel Rivera and Quesada, Sunday Feature by Stan Lee and Marcos Martin, covers by Quesada and Jelena Kevic-Djurdjevic.

The startling conclusion to “One Moment in Time!”. How did the world really forget Peter Parker was Spider-Man? And what does the future hold for Peter & Mary Jane? Every question is answered, the past laid to rest, and Spider-Man swings into a new direction for the future!

40 pages, $3.99

Why I’m Stoked: The conclusion to One Moment in Time has the potential to have the fanpeeps losing their shit all over the face of the internet as it answers some serious dangling plotlines. I for one am interested to see how this plays out. What will the future of Spidey look like after this event? I’ll be there to find out and I’m stoked to read these issues.

2. JOE THE BARBARIAN #8

Written by Grant Morrison, art and cover by Sean Murphy.

All of Joe’s new allies and enemies descend upon the same battlefield as he and his army have their final showdown with Death itself! Hearts will be broken and sacrifices will be made as the white-hot team of Grant Morrison and Sean Murphy wrap up one of the most talked-about miniseries of the year in an unforgettable final showdown.

32 pages, $2.99, in stores on August 18

Why I’m Stoked: The final issue of what may easily be my favorite Grant Morrison work to date. This has been an incredible ride and unfortunately there is an end to the ride. I’m hoping this title has an ending fitting such a great work.

3. GREEN LANTERN: EMERALD WARRIORS #1

Written by Peter J. Tomasi, art by Ferando Pasarin, cover by Rodolfo Migliari, variant cover by Lee Bermejo.

A whole new chapter in the epic Green Lantern saga gets under way as Guy Gardner begins his secret mission for Atrocitus, bringing him into conflict with Hal Jordan with massive repercussions for the Green Lantern Corps! Guy takes fellow Emerald Warriors Kilowog and Arisia along as he explores the Unknown Sectors — but what happens when they discover his mission and what’s waiting for them in the unpatrolled darkness?

32 pages, $2.99, in stores on August 11

Why I’m Stoked: Guy Gardner like a motherfucker! Guy starring in a title written by Peter Tomasi is enough to get me stoked. Toss in Kilowog and Arisia and some art by Pasarin and it’s all just a cherry on top. This should be awesome.

4. X-FACTOR #208

Written by Peter David, directed by Emanuela Lupacchino, cover by David Yardin.

What’s the single most-asked question we’ve been getting at X-Factor Central? Will Wolfsbane, cut adrift from X-Force, return to X-Factor? The answer is a resounding “yes.” But how is she going to react when she discovers that Rictor and Shatterstar are a couple? Not all that well as Shatterstar finds himself in the fight of his life. And how will Rictor react when he discovers that Rahne is pregnant? What, you want us to tell you everything? We have to leave something for you to discover for yourself in what is sure to be the most-talked about X-book of the month, if not the year.

32 pages, $2.99

Why I’m Stoked: Wolfsbane is back! This is something a lot of people, myself included, have been waiting for. It sounds like her return is going to be the event it should be and the solicitation hints there’s a little extra in there too. What is it? I don’t know but my interest is piqued as I know PAD tends to come through on promises of awesomesauce in this book.

5. GUARDIANS OF THE GLOBE #1

Written by Robert Kirkman and Benito Cereno, art by Ransom Getty, cover by Ryan Ottley, Getty and Fco Plascencia.

As the Viltrumite War rages on within the pages of Invincible, the ranks of the Guardians of the Globe are suddenly depleted. The world is in danger, and the team is in search of new blood. It’s the biggest recruitment drive since Omni-Man slaughtered the original members. But will the new Guardians of the Globe be ready in time to stop The Order?

32 pages, $3.50, in stores on August 25

Why I’m Stoked: Well the ads for this were really humorous and it got my attention. Once the actual details for the real deal started coming out I became truly excited. Another Kirkman book with Invincible? Yes please!

6. POWERS #8

Written by Brian Michael Bendis, art and cover by Micahel Avon Oeming.

Deena’s back.

40 pages, $3.95

Why I’m Stoked: Really short and to the point solicitation that has me absolutely stoked! This book just hasn’t been the same since Deena left the spotlight. Things are a lot different now though and she has changed since last we saw her. Should be a fun yet bumpy ride.

7. ACTION COMICS #892

Written by Paul Cornell and Jeff Lemire, art by Pete Woods and Pier Gallo, covers by David Finch / Joe Weems and Ivan Reis / Oclair Albert.

Lex Luthor’s all-consuming quest for power leads him straight into conflict with Deathstroke, the Terminator! What happens when the DCU’s most ingenious mastermind meets its most lethal killer? We don’t know, but it’s sure gonna be fun finding out É This issue also features a new Superboy story by Lemire and Gallo — the creative team of the upcoming new Superboy ongoing series!

40 pages, $3.99, in stores on August 25

Why I’m Stoked: Couple reasons I’m stoked here. The first being I can’t wait to see Luthor and Deathstroke throwdown. The second is the Lemire Superboy back up. It plants the seeds for his upcoming Superboy title, which I will be picking up without a doubt. Those two things combined make for a tasty sounding issue.

8. INCREDIBLE HULK #611

Written by GREG PAK Penciled by PAUL PELLETIER Wraparound Cover by JOHN ROMITA JR. Variant Cover by DALE KEOWN

THE HULK HAS RETURNED. And three years of epic storytelling explodes as GREK PAK and PAUL PELLETIER bring you the biggest conclusion imaginable–SKAAR, SON OF HULK, finally confronts the father who abandoned him at birth in pain and fire. It’s the heartrending, senses-shattering climax to WORLD WAR HULKS — and the Incredible Hulks will never be the same!

40 pages, $3.99

Why I’m Stoked: As much as I have no love for what’s been going on in the Hulk titles recently I do enjoy Skaar. I know this is not a commonly shared opinion, but I think he’s pretty cool. I have been looking forward to him and Hulk throwing down and now it’s here!

9. NANCY IN HELL #1

Written by El Torres, art and cover by Juan Jose Ryp and Fran Gamboa.

Good girls go to heaven, right? But it seems like there are no good girls anymore. After her death, Nancy awakens in a creepy landscape to find decomposing lost souls, demons lurking in the shadows, outcasts, chainsaws, booze, and certain doom. Can Nancy escape from Hell?

32 pages, $2.99, in stores on August 4

Why I’m Stoked: Honestly, this is the potential bust of the month. This book could be incredibly cool with such a basic but whacked out concept or it could end up being a disaster on par with Water World. Come August i’ll let you know which it is.

Well there you have it everyone. Now check back in September to see what I thought of these books as I rank them based on how they actually panned out in comparison to how they were ranked here. Stay tuned next month to see what’s got me stoked for September!
