It’s time for another look at the future of comics. This time around we take a look at the works to be released September 2010 and I share with you the things I am most excited to pick up that month. Then when September actually is over I will take a look back at these titles and rank them again but they’ll be ranked based on how enjoyable they actually ended up being. So let’s not waste any time. Let’s get right into those picks.

Click the jump to proceed to the future…

8. HEROIC AGE: ONE MONTH TO LIVE #1-5 (of 5)
Written by RICK REMENDER, STUART MOORE, JOHN OSTRANDER & ROB WILLIAMS
Penciled by ANDREA MUTTI, KOI TURNBULL & MORE
Covers by MIKE FYLES
WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH ONE MONTH TO CHANGE THE WORLD?
An all-star creative roster brings you a weekly Marvel event! Featuring Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four and the Avengers!
In a world of unlikely heroes, Dennis Sykes is about to become Marvel’s unlikeliest. Banker by day, struggling parent by night — and unhappy about it all. But when a tragic turn of events gives Dennis a 30 day death sentence, he discovers his accident comes with super-powers. And as the weeks in Dennis’ life tick down, he sets out to leave a mark one way or the other – – even if he has to go through Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four and the Avengers to do it.
Everyone is the hero of their own story…but not every hero is a good guy.
32 PGS.(each)/Rated T+ …$2.99 (each)

Why I’m Stoked: This is one of those books that sounds pretty cool but could end up being a total dud. I really like the creators involved though so I’m going with it being a stud and not a dud. It’s a little outside the Marvel U box but yet within it still which is always appealing when done correctly.

7. THOR: FOR ASGARD #1 & 2 (of 7)
Written by ROBERT RODI
Pencils & Covers by SIMONE BIANCHI
Beginning an epic adventure showcasing the God of Thunder as you’ve never seen him before! The vassals of Asgard are in armed revolt…Odin is missing…Balder is dead…and the entire continent is battered by a years-long winter. How can Thor put the empire back together — especially with his mighty hammer Mjolnir mysteriously denied him?
32 PGS. (each)/Parental Advisory …$3.99 (each)

Why I’m Stoked: I usually am not a huge fan of Bianchi. I really despise the way he draws Cyclops’ visor for example. Here though his Thor looks dramatic and badass. I’m stoked for this because it has a nice epic feel. Thor + Epic = Stoked!

6. BRIGHTEST DAY #10Written by GEOFF JOHNS & PETER J. TOMASI
Art by IVAN REIS, PATRICK GLEASON, ARDIAN SYAF, SCOTT CLARK & JOE PRADO
Covers by DAVID FINCH
1:10 Variant covers by IVAN REIS
The resurrected have discovered their purpose for being back, but where will the knowledge lead them? Who is the new Aqualad? And what strange event is taking place around the White Power Battery in New Mexico?
Retailers please note: These issues will ship with two covers each. Please see the Previews Order Form for more information.
Issue #10 on sale SEPTEMBER 15
32 pg, FC, $2.99 US

Why I’m Stoked: Not going to lie. The new Aqualad along with his crazy afraid of water scheme sounds awesome to me. I think this should get some serious play when it launches and I think it will have some people talking when it concludes. I know I personally can’t wait for the issue. The series has been solid so far and introducing a new character that isn’t white should help to please some of those clamoring for more minority superheroes in the DCU.

5. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #642
Written by MARK WAID & STAN LEE
Penciled by PAUL AZACETA & MARCOS MARTIN
Cover by MARKO DJURDJEVIC
Variant Cover by JOHN ROMITA, SR.
A five part spider-odyssey begins in ORIGIN OF THE SPECIES!
With Peter Parker’s ONE MOMENT IN TIME behind him and Mary Jane back in his life, Spidey finds himself ready for a new start…but the various threads of his life since his BRAND NEW DAY are about to crash together violently. When Norman Osborn’s baby is born… every villain on the planet wants the first ever strain of pure Goblin blood, leaving Spider-Man’s friends and family exposed to a Sinister plan that threatens to bring down every strand or Peter’s life that’s been stitched together carefully over the past few years. It may be a cliché to say it…but after ORIGIN OF THE SPECIES absolutely nothing will be the same. Also this issue, we begin a series of covers by the brilliant Marko Djurdjevic that when all put together will form a giant wall-sized Spider poster featuring the people in Spider-Man’s life! Plus…the Spidey Sunday feature continues breaking the 4th wall of Web-swinging Wonder by legends Stan Lee and Marcos Martin (well, Stan’s a legend…Marcos is just a man who draws like one.)
32 PGS./Rated A …$2.99

Why I’m Stoked: A baby goblin? Sold.

4. MACHETE #0Written by Robert Rodriguez & Aaron Kaufman, art by Stuart Sayger, cover by Zach Howard.
This special #0 issue carves its story from Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming “Grindhouse” flick, Machete! In this introductory issue, which will lead into an all-new series in December, Rodriguez himself, alongside producer Aaron Kaufman, pens the ultimate “Mexploitation” tale of revenge as we see what drew Machete to first pick up the blades…
32 pages, $3.99, in stores on Sept. 15.

Why I’m Stoked: If you know what this is this is awesome. If you weren’t a fan of the Grindhouse flicks or never saw them this would be hard to sell to you or explain in the limited time I have here. I loved the mock trailer for this movie within the Grindhouse flicks so I am super stoked for this issue. Rodriguez even comes on board to write it so this should be all awesomesauce!

3. CHEW #15
story JOHN LAYMAN
art & fold-out cover ROB GUILLORY
SEPTEMBER 29
32 PAGES / FC
$2.99
“JUST DESSERTS,” Conclusion
It’s the final chapter of “Just Desserts” and the biggest story in CHEW history, figuratively and literally. As we reach the one-quarter mark of the CHEW run, the last remaining major characters are introduced and an event transpires that is so shocking and unexpected it changes the book forever, fundamentally and irrevocably.
And, as a special sloppy, wet kiss to everyone who has supported the book and helped it succeed beyond our wildest expectations: CHEW #15 is bonus-sized, with more story pages and a special TRI-FOLD POSTER COVER, at no extra cost.
Don’t trade-wait on this one, folks!
RETAILER WARNING: NOT SUITABLE FOR ALL AGES

Why I’m Stoked: Same price more pages? Yes please. Also, we get what is supposed to be the biggest issue of the series yet as far as story goes? I am really stoked for this issue. I love this book and highly recommended you get stoked about this issue as well.

2. INCOGNITO: Bad Influences #1
LAST YEAR’S BREAKOUT HIT FINALLY RETURNS!
By the award-winning team of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips.
One of the biggest Hollywood options of the year, nominated for THREE Eisner Awards, INCOGNITO is finally back for more! It’s apocalyptic pulp noir at its finest!
It’s been over a year since Zack Overkill came out of Witness Protection to build a new life. But working for the government isn’t that different from being controlled by them, and his new secret identity is becoming more trouble than it’s worth… So what will Zack do when tasked with a mission that sends him on a hunt into darkest corners of the super-criminal underworld where he was raised? Also returning with Incognito are the exclusive Pulp magazine essays by Jess Nevins, Professor of pulp history, only available in the single issues of Incognito.
32 PGS./ MATURE CONTENT/ NO ADS … $3.50

Why I’m Stoked: The first one was so good this second one has got to be just as good is my belief. It may even be better. With the world now established by the last series this time around the sky is the limit. Also, the first issue has no ads! That’s right NO ADS! Stoked!

1. INVINCIBLE #77
story ROBERT KIRKMAN
art & cover RYAN OTTLEY & FCO PLASCENCIA
SEPTEMBER 22
32 PAGES / FC
$2.99
THE VILTRUMITE WAR CONTINUES!
THE FINAL STAND! It’s all come to this: The fate of all life on Earth is at stake. If Invincible loses… Wait, Invincible can’t lose… Can he?

Why I’m Stoked: This is it everyone. All the Viltrumite action we’ve witnessed from the very beginning between father and son comes down to this. Who will win and what will be the lasting effects? It’s Kirkman so who knows! I know I will be blasting this book open with my hands and eyes when I get home with it though.

Well, there you have it. See you at the end of July for a recap of the books I was originally stoked for within that month as well as the look into the future of October 2010. Thanks for reading and feel free to let me know what’s got you stoked for September 2010!
