C2E2 Highlights According to Burpee

Here at Multiversity Comics we are a man down as David is off being an indy music hipster at this shindig called Coachella. On top of that it seems we are in Bizzaro World and I am the only one sober enough to post news regarding what we’ve learned coming out of the first day of C2E2. So essentially the grown ups have left the building and the Burpmeister is left with the keys to the castle. So What kind of news and highlights will you get out of this? The kind drenched in Awesomesauce! So check after the jump to see my take on some of the news from C2E2 Day Numero Uno.

So some of this we’ve already earned about at the Retailers Summit but it was rehashed at C2E2 today so it’s fair game for me to give some opinions. I’m just giving you the heads up cause I know some of you will complain and say, “Come on asshat we already knew that!”. Yes, we did and I don’t care this is MY recap. Don ‘t like it? Get your own. So with the disclaimer out of the way let’s rock.

1. How Steve-O Got His Groove Back

So Mr. Rogers has been back for awhile and kicking ass but it was announced that he would be returning in his own series to kick ass in a conspiracy theory laden adventure that ties into the origin of the super serum itself. It’s written by Ed Brubakerand drawn by Dale Eaglesham and looks AWESOME!

The Pro: Steve’s new suit is just drizzled in Awesomesauce! It’s a ook even Tim Gun could get behind.

The Con: Eaglsham’s involvement means the end of his stint on Fantastic Four which is a total shame because he and Hickman together are producing one of the best books on the market month in and month out. This book better really kill to make it worth taking Eaglsham of FF.

2. I Can’t Maleev How Good This Art Looks

Maleev and Brian Michael Bendis will be unleasing their new book on the Marvel Icon imprint called Scarlet. The art looks amazing per the usual from Maleev and the concept sounds strong as a one woman force looks to bring about a social change that eventually draws more people to her cause. The book will be an ongoing bi-monthly book. I am glad it will be bi-monthly as it will enough lead time for Maleev to produce beautiful art without having to sacrifice anything to meet a quick looming deadline. The book will launch in July and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it as our Book of The Week when it releases.

The Pro: It’s all a giant pro in my opinion.

The Con: Can’t think of a single con here ladies and gents.

3. Teachers Assemble!

The teaching staff of the upcoming Avengers Academy was announced. Tigra, Justice, Quicksilver, The Wasp (Hank Pym) and Speedball were named as the faculty. It was also pointed out that all of them seem to have had their troubles at one point intime and ae working to redeem themselves in some fashion or another. This leads me to believe that maybe this team is a little troubled and that the staff is in place to cater to their potential dark turn and show them the righteous path. That’s just me though as that is anything but backed by proof.

The Pros: If you are a fan of Speedball and dislike Penance then you get your wish fulfilled as Speedball comes bouncing back to be just as obscure and never utilized as he has been recently.

The Cons: Well for me most of it to be honest. I’m just not jazzed by this book. Can’t love them all right?

4. Secret Warrior Go Bye Bye

So it appears the end of the series that is loved tremendously by my peeps at this site is coming to an end. It was announced that the series would come to an end during issues #27 and #28. Right now a man can be heard crying at Coachela and his name is David.

The Pros: Well this is money saved.

The Cons: My shoulder will be soggy after David cries into it.

The Pros: Maybe we can film David crying during 4 Color News and Brews.

Well those were the highlights of the day as far as I could tell. Not much new news and most of the news coming from Marvel today. This weekend should provide us with the real meat and potatoes so come check us out for more legit style posts and if you like this one maybe more of these to end the day. I know I am personally eagerly anticipating the X-Men panel on Sunday in hopes that this last weeks ads were for some sort of reality jumping title that is not continuity. Have a great one and see you all later.

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
