Yes, you read that right. Starting this week at Multiversity, we are starting a Pet of the Week feature. Why? Well, for one, we all love our pets. For two, I thought it might be nice to end the week with a little spotlight at something adorable. For three, it was actually requested of us (so here you go, Sarah, this one’s for you!).
So, to start things off, here is the second appearance of my cat Boots this week, because clearly I’m narcissistic (and so is he):
Full Name: Mr. Boots the Thunder Cat (Note: not Thundercat, Thunder Cat)
First Appearance: June 5th, 2009
Favorite Comic: He rubs his face on my copy of “The Complete Calvin and Hobbes” since it sticks out of the bookshelf due to its size, so let’s say that
Secret Origin: When I got Boots, he was one of three kittens found on a boat (I believe the one that inspired the song “I’m On A Boat”) by a friend of a friend. Said friend, knowing that I was planning to get a cat when I moved into my new apartment in ’09, contacted me and asked if I would be interested in adopting one or two. My answer was, emphatically, of course. I had always wanted a male orange cat, and as it turns out one of the kittens was male and orange. I lucked out and, not to toot my own horn, so did he, because he is spoiled as fuck. (I got a second cat from the boat litter as well, but we’ll discuss her another time if no one submits pets for this column.)
His name, by the way, comes from a really stupid joke I made when I was in college. I used to go on non-sensical Dr. Cox-ian rants at times towards one people, and one day during a class I went on a rant that ended with something along the lines of “…before you go home alone to spend the evening with Boots the Thunder Cat!” Pausing, I realized that Boots the Thunder Cat was an adorable name for a cat.
If you would like your pet to be Pet of the Week, send pictures and the origin of your dog, cat, fish, lizard, etc (preferably with something comic book related somewhere near him or her to make this all seem “more legitimate”) to matthew@multiversitycomics.com, and every week I’ll choose one to go up on the site. All pets sent in will be featured at some point, so if yours doesn’t show up in the first week just keep checking back.
