Buying comics can be an expensive hobby. A lot of fans simply can’t afford everything they’re interested in, due to rising prices and the over-saturation of the market with superhero titles.

That’s why we’re here. Every week, the Multiversity staff is asked “What would you buy this week if you couldn’t go over $20?” and shares their reasons why, in order to help others who might have similar tastes make their own decisions in buying comics on a budget. Be sure to leave your own picks in the comments!

Leo’s Picks:

Deadly Class #27 ($3.99) – A new arc! “Deadly Class” remains as good as ever and Wes Craig continues to be an absolute art monster. Recent events in the book have been big, so I’m looking forward to what they do going forward.

Rick & Morty #24 ($3.99) – I am going through withdrawals waiting for the third season of this glorious show, so getting a quick fix with one of the stellar licensed comics from Oni should hit the spot. Kyle Starks always manages to capture the weirdness of the show with each of his scripts.

Booster Gold/Flintstones Annual #1 ($4.99)  – We all know that “The Flintstones” has somehow been one of the best comics of the last year, right? Mashing them together with Booster Gold will either be disastrous or elevate the book to even greater heights. As good as the Flintstones book has been, I’m willing to take a shot on this.

Postal #19 ($3.99) – Things are getting heated in Eden as the townspeople don’t like the idea of Mark running the show. Mark has to make some decisions and also finds out just what sort of leader he may end up being.

Total: $16.96

Matthew’s Picks:

Booster Gold / The Flintstones Annual ($4.99) – The Flintstones book has been so good, and now Mark Russell is pulling in Booster Gold for his piece of this weirdo crossover move DC is promoting. I don’t know what the point of it all is, but with the way Russell has been writing the modern stone age family, I can only imagine how Booster’s bwa-ha-ha’s will add to the overall story.

Deadly Class #27 ($3.99) – Remender’s best book right now, and Craig’s art has never looked better. This book continues to surprise, with certain recent revelations striking a particularly exciting chord for me as fans of certain characters.

Divinity III Stalinverse #4 ($3.99) – The finale to one of my favorite things Valiant has done of recent memory. The Divinity Trilogy is pretty spectacular, and I’ve loved each installment to date. I’m hoping that this iteration will similarly wrap up as satisfying as the last two have.

Inhumans Prime #1 ($4.99) – Just as I bail from the X-Men franchise, Al Ewing steps into the Inhumans world to say, “Hey Matt, it’s safe to come back and enjoy these characters again.” So that’s just what I’m going to do. Also Marvel Boy is there, so sure, why not.

Total: $17.96

Mark’s picks:

Lobster Johnson: The Pirate’s Ghost #1 ($3.99) — Holy crap, this is a good issue! Tonci Zonjic and John Arcudi knock this one out of the park. This is one you’ll want to read again just to look at Zonjic’s spectacular art.

The Visitor: How and Why He Stayed #2 ($3.99) — I was a little lukewarm on the first issue, but “The Visitor” hits its stride in the second issue, especially as it focuses less on what connects it to the rest of the Hellboy Universe and more on what makes it unique. I really enjoyed this one.

Serenity: No Power in the ‘Verse #6 ($3.99) — Ain’t no good hollerin’; another miniseries of “Serenity” is over. They don’t come along nearly as often as they should. Fortunately, the letter column promises more is already in the works…

Lazarus #26 ($3.99) — The final part of the “Cull” arc is here at last. It’s been a while, but I’ve no doubt it’ll be worth it. This series was on our 2016 Best Ongoing Series list for a reason.

Total: $15.96.

Brian’s Picks:

Jughead: The Hunger ($4.99) – Archie’s horror offerings are, in a very real way, one of the first successes that Archie had in undated its aesthetic and style over the past few years. “Jughead: The Hunger” brings Michael Walsh, one of the finest artists working in comics today to the table, and that is even more reason to check out this one-shot.

The Visitor: How and Why He Stayed #2 ($3.99) – This miniseries illuminates a mysterious character from the Mignolaverse, and does so in a way that is both unexpected and oddly familiar. Plus, Paul Grist is doing some truly fun work here.

Titans Annual #1 ($4.99) – I relish any opportunity to read a “Titans” comic not illustrated by Brett Booth. This is a cause for celebration.

Total: $13.97

Jess’ Picks:

WWE Wrestlemania Special #1 ($7.99) – It’s bigger than the Super Bowl and a presidential election. It’s Wrestlemania!!!! I have enjoyed the WWE comics far more than I expected so while it’s expensive, I’ll be checking this out.

Booster Gold/The Flintstones Special ($3.99) “The Flintstones” is better than it had any right to be and Booster Gold is one of my absolute favorite characters. I’m obligated to get this. Maybe it’ll be good!

X-Men Prime #1 ($4.99) Hey, did you know that I am going to be writing an X-Men column? You didn’t? Now you do. Please read this so I’m not alone.

Total: $16.97

Matt’s Picks:

Saga Vol. 7 ($14.99) – “Saga” remains as inventive and gorgeously rendered as ever. However, with its recent arcs, its lack of direction or endpoint is starting to wear at the material. The dialogue is still spiffy, the characters still empathetic and relatable, but the tension only really comes from wondering who’s going to die next and that strikes me as a little . . . cheap? Regardless, this remains an engrossing and enthralling world, where you’re constantly swept up in its scope and expanse.

Total: $14.99.

Ken’s Picks:

Generation Zero #8 ($3.99): Only two issues left.

Total: $3.99
