Another week of Comics Should Be Cheap is here, and we have a week that features a ton of big books and hard choices for our writers. For those who are buying on a tight budget, consult our lists to get ideas of what would be the best bang for your buck this week in the world of comics.

Find out our picks after the jump.

David’s Picks

Fables #98 ($2.99) – I love me some Fables, and Bill Willingham’s magnum opus is moving closer and closer to its monumental 100th issue. With the Rose Red returning to prominence at the end of the previous issue and conflict with The Dark One becoming closer and closer, these next couple issues should be fantastic. And what a cover from Joao Ruas!

Thor #615 ($3.99) – While I haven’t been reading Thor recently, I can say I’m excited for the beginning of Matt Fraction and Pasqual Ferry’s run. With Fraction often contributing one-shots to the character, we know the recent award winning writer can handle him. Here’s hoping he can keep the momentum from those one-shots going into his run.

The Walking Dead #77 ($2.99) – It’s the best book in comics. There’s no reason you shouldn’t be buying this every single month.

Nemesis #3 ($2.99) – Yeah, I went there. I’m not sure if it’s morbid fascination or what, but for some reason I am just entertained by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven’s much maligned Icon mini-series. While it may not provide a rich and textured experience, it’s hard to say it isn’t something that I read with a smile on my face.

Fantastic Four #583 ($2.99) – While I think Hickman’s run hasn’t been able to stay consistent (Solve Everything and the Four Cities arcs have been great, but everything else has been somewhat meh), it has reached high highs on the arcs that were expected to be great. Personally? I think this is going to be another great one, especially with the promise of one member leaving/dying and Steve Epting joining the book.

Justice League: Generation Lost #10 ($2.99) – I can’t get enough of this series. It’s been thoroughly entertaining throughout, and by far my favorite superhero work from Judd Winick. Plus…Batman! Can’t wait for it.

Matt’s Picks

Fantastic Four #583 ($2.99) – First issue of “Three,” and it’s Hickman’s Fantastic Four. I have to buy this. You have to buy it.

Walking Dead #77 ($2.99) – This comic book defines zombies at the moment, and with every issue it gets more intense. This is my favorite thing Robert Kirkman has ever done, and it’s somehow never lost steam with over 75 issues now.

Power Girl #16 ($2.99) – I didn’t read the Palmiotti/Gray/Conner run at all after the first issue despite all the good things I heard, but decided to check it out during Winick’s run due to the greatness of Generation Lost and Bsari’s art. I wasn’t disappointed. I don’t think you will be either.

Justice League: Generation Lost #10 ($2.99) – Speaking of Winick being great, hey! Generation Lost! And Batman shows up, hopefully to get his butt kicked! I can dig it.

Thor #615 ($3.99) – Kieron Gillen may be gone, but Matt Fraction is stepping in. This has been a long time coming now. It’ll be very interesting to see what he does with the God of Thunder.

Supergirl #56 ($2.99) – I’ve been loving every issue of this since Sterling Gates took over. It’s been my favorite Superbook, hands down. The current arc features Bizarro Supergirl – what more do you want?

Totals: $18.94

Also, it’s 10 bucks more than the budget allows, but Dave McKean’s Cages is getting a reprint (finally). If you somehow have $30, you should get it. I know I’m pulling out the cash for it.

Walt’s Picks

The Flash #5 ($2.99) – After about a month long delay, the best book DC superstar Geoff Johns has been writing is finally back on the shelves. The current story arc — with its time-travel, rogues and renegades — has been such a exemplary Flash story while still being new and unique. So long as Johns is on the title, I could care less that it’s Barry behind the mask.

Supergirl #56 ($2.99) – I pretty sure I say this every time I mention this book, but Supergirl is DC’s most underrated title. If you haven’t been reading it, it is (sadly) probable that your local shop will not have sold out of the previous two issues, which is the perfect spot to jump in. Sterling Gates needs more love!

Fantastic Four #583 ($2.99) – There’s nothing I can say about this title that won’t already be said by any of the other guys, so all I have to say is this: my body is ready.

Thor #615 ($3.99) – I’m a huge Matt Fraction fanboy, and his previous work on the Norse thunder god has been nothing but grand. While I’m still not sold on Pasqual Ferry’s art, I’ve been too anxious for Fraction to take the wheel to allow something silly like that to dissuade me from picking up this book.

Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man #14 ($3.99) – The Ultimate Chameleon(s) arc has been much more exciting for me than the recent Chameleon-centered 616 story, and now we are reaching its sure to shock end. I’m glad that Bendis has been able to keep on trucking almost a year after Ultimatum soiled the Ultimate Universe. Just take LaFuente off of the book!

*Optional* Image Firsts: I Kill Giants #1 ($1.00) – Now, this spot should go to Walking Dead, but I’ve been reading it in trade, so that would be dishonest of me. Instead, you should totally pick up the $1 #1 of Joe Kelly’s fantastic I Kill Giants. If it doesn’t make you want to pick up the full trade, you may be a heartless monster.

Total: $16.95/$17.95
