Buying comics can be an expensive hobby. A lot of fans simply can’t afford everything they’re interested in, due to rising prices and the over-saturation of the market with superhero titles.
That’s why we’re here. Every week, the Multiversity staff is asked “What would you buy this week if you couldn’t go over $20?” and shares their reasons why, in order to help others who might have similar tastes make their own decisions in buying comics on a budget. Be sure to leave your own picks in the comments!
Christopher’s Pick:
Under Kingdom ($14.99): Christof Bogacs and Marie Enger’s OGN follows high school freshman Shay as he becomes the guardian of a secret world of monsters beneath his hometown. While a colorful adventure filled with “mischievous sock-stealing imps, adorable dragons, rowdy orcs, and an endless variety of other strange creatures,” what’s most intriguing is how the synopsis describes Shay as “a strict pacifist in a world that is demanding he go to war to protect it” – we could always use more stories where “kindness is proven more powerful than violence.”
Total: $14.99
Kate’s Picks:
Chilling Adventures Presents Cult of that Wilkin Boy #1 ($3.99): One of the first series I read as a reviewer was Jim Zub’s “Glitterbomb,” a story of fame and what anyone will do to hold on to it as the clock ticks away. This looks to be a fun heir apparent to that series.
She Hulk #12 ($4.99): Happy 175 issues, Jennifer Walters!
The Expanse: Dragon Tooth #1 ($4.99): While I’m happy The Expanse got a second life on Amazon Prime, and was able to end that run on its own terms, I still want more stories, as there were a lot of questions left unanswered.
