There wasn’t any really important digital comics news this week, Marvel went “exclusive” on the Nook tablet but that seems to be an essentially meaningless exclusive as the vast majority of their content is going to be on Comixology as well. There’s also a FANTASTIC sale on a great Image book called Skullkickers. Every issue is $0.99 from now through November 23rd. If you’ve never checked out Skullkickers you absolutely should, it’s in the same big fun/action camp as Atomic Robo and it’s even going to have its own version of Munchkin coming out! It’s one of my favourite books coming out every month so take this sale as a chance to check it out. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed, unless you hate good things in which case I can’t help you. Now let’s get into the spotlighted books of the week, it’s a pretty light week but there’s some really quality stuff.

Stumptown #1 ($1.99/Oni, Comixology): While plagued with delays when it was coming out in print, Stumptown is a fantastic private eye story set in Portland. Written by Greg Rucka, who needs no further explanation, it tells the story of Dex, a female PI straight from the old PI tv series mold. If you’re a fan of those old shows you absolutely have to check it out. Matthew Southworth does a great job on art, he’s especially good at cars, which is important for this kind of story.

Reed Gunther Volume 1 ($1.99 * 5/Image, Comixology): First off this is available in single issues from Comixology (9.95 for the issues or 14.99 for the trade) but Graphicly has it cheapest so I’d say go there despite their interface not being as good. This is an all ages story about a cowboy who rides a bear. That should be enough for anyone, but if not, the art is done in a really great cartoony style and the writing is funny, quick and very entertaining, like with Chimichanga last week if you want to read a book with your kids this is a great one that will entertain both of you. UPDATE: Graphicly is now selling it at 14.99 as well, so your best bet is to get the 5 issues on Comixology.

Middleman Volume 2 ($0.99*4/Viper, Comixology/Graphicly): If you were a fan of the TV series you should definitely check out these comics. (You should also check out the TV series if you never have). Another action/adventure book, the Middleman works for a mysterious group and solves weird and exotic problems with a sidekick (in the comics and TV series it’s Wendy Watson). It’s a ridiculous high concept story with martial arts teachers, robot receptionists and evil luchadores. It’s less than $4, check it out!

End League Volume 1 ($5.99 Bundle, Dark Horse): I liked this book a lot when it came out in print, but I remember being confused a lot of the time. I’m pretty sure it was just because it came out sporadically because Rick Remender is a fantastic writer. This is the story of the remaining heroes on an earth overrun by evil trying to find the Hammer of Thor, the only thing that could save them. This first volume is drawn by Mat Broome who I’m unfamiliar with but he does a really good job. That said Eric Canete draws volume two and really kicks things up a notch (or 10). Definitely check this out, Remender was writing great stuff long before he became a huge name at Marvel.

As always here’s the full lists of what’s came out so you can see everything that came out this week:
