Dog of the Week: Lola

This week for Pet of the Week, we bring you a cocker spaniel of superheroic character, the dog of staff writer Brian Salvatore,  Lola.

Lola, Warning You of Imminent Danger
Full Name: Lola Salvatore
First Appearance: June 2004
Favorite Comic: Anything her owner reads (she gets pet while her parents read)
Secret Origin: Her adoptive mother, Erin,  received her as a graduation gift from college, giving her the name Lola, short for Loyola (Erin’s alma mater). When Erin married Brian, he adopted Lola as his own.  As his ward, Lola has become his loyal sidekick and partner in crime (crime being taking walks, watching baseball and cuddling up).  She has recently become a big sister to her human sibling, Amelia, and has responded by wanting to play ball with her and give her lots of kisses, especially first thing in the morning.
Lola’s superpowers are her incredible energy and her ability to somehow take up an entire queen-sized bed, despite being only 24 lbs.  She has been known to do feats of wonder, like poop twice on the way from the mailbox to the door, or know the difference between the purple ball and the green ball, despite being color blind, as all dogs are.  She also has off the charts cuteness and friendliness to go along with her insatiable appetite and ability to always be under foot.
Lola does have her fair share of enemies though, from people knocking on doors on television, to the dreaded TV stand, where her ball gets stuck under, or the mysterious desire to dig around in the carpet, on the couch, on the bed, and just about anywhere else, looking for God knows what.  However, none of this gets her down, and she continues to be everyone’s favorite dog.  When she visits her grandma and grandpa, she is part of a Super-Pet team that also includes 5 cats, although the friction between team members sometimes gets the best of them.  Her neighbor dogs, Lacey and Dulce, are reluctant allies, all more content to act solo.
Lola occasionally gets to accompany Brian to the office, where she is the delight of everyone from the custodian to the boss.  There, she gets to dig in all sorts of other things, as well as bark at the UPS guy, and poop in exciting places like near the dumpster.  She recently got shaved for the summer, but unlike Samson, losing her hair does not make her weaker; in fact, she seems to have more energy and enjoys to cuddle even more.
If you would like your pet to be Pet of the Week, send pictures and the origin of your dog, cat, fish, lizard, etc (preferably with something comic book related somewhere near him or her to make this all seem “more legitimate”) to matthew@multiversitycomics.com, and every week I’ll choose one to go up on the site. All pets sent in will be featured at some point, so if yours doesn’t show up in the first week just keep checking back.
